FRAUDULENT LETTER ALERT
1-800-424-9071
The Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) is receiving numerous calls concerning a letter dated "1st of September 2002", which has been or may be mailed to current or potential contractors concerning registration in the Department of Defense Central Contractor Registration System (CCR).
The letter which is signed by "John (no middle initial) Duncan, Senior Procurement Officer" appears to be fraudulent. Contractors are advised to not complete the CCR worksheet that is attached to the letter and do not release any information to the facsimile number cited in the letter.
The CCR is a legitimate government system. D.O.T. does require potential contractors to register in the CCR, but this can be done on-line by contractors through the CCR website. There is no requirement to submit information to D.O.T.
The CCR website address is http://www.ccr.gov/index.cfm. The point of contact concerning this possible fraud is the Department of Transportation Office of the Inspector General hotline at 1-800-424-9071.
