INTERSESSION CHILD CARE OPPORTUNITIES
This list was compiled with feedback from Pearsontown families. The purpose is to help parents learn
about the opportunities for their children during our quarterly breaks. Please note that the Pearsontown
PTA is not endorsing these camps. Parents should explore each option carefully. Although every effort
was made to ensure accuracy, parents should check the details before making any arrangements.
Schoolhouse of Wonder
Camps are offered the weeks of Mar. 22 (Spring Turtle Camp), Mar. 29 (Spring Otter Camp) and Apr. 5
(Spring River Camp) for $265/week. There is a $15 discount for camps purchased at the same time. This
outdoor camp is offered at West Point on the Eno City Park for children ages 5-11. Camp days begin at
9:00 and ends at 5:00. Morning drop-off is from 8:15-9AM and afternoon pick-up is from 5:00-5:15PM.
There is an early pick-up option at 3:00-3:15 for families interested in a slightly shorter camp day. The fee
for all camps, regardless of pick-up time, is noted. Payment is due with completed registration form.

The Museum of Life and Science
Located on Murray Avenue in Durham, the Museum of Life and Science has two spring camps scheduled
for March 29 through April 2; April 5 through April 9. Topics include Beneath Your Feet for PreK-K;
Weather Explorers for Grades 1-2; Experiments in Mythology for Grades 3-5. Camp runs from 9am to
3pm with extended hours for an additional fee [before camp runs 8:00-9:00 and after camp runs 3:00-5:00

The Clubhouse at Bright Horizons
The Clubhouse is a full day, year-round camp program including Track Out Camp, Summer Camp, and
School's Out Days to children ages 5-14 offering a high-quality, state-of-the-art, fully resourced facility
with hands on experiences in the Art Studio, IT Suite, Game Room, theater & music, sports, outdoor
activities, gymnasium, water playground, swimming and field trips. It is located in Cary at the intersection
of Davis Drive and High House Road. With enough interest, campers could be transported from The
Enrichment Center on Alexander Drive in RTP to the Clubhouse. Parents may drop off their children at
the Enrichment Center between 7:00-8:30am and pick them up again between 4:45-6:00pm. For more

Impact Athletics and Fitness Center
Located in Cary, this Athletic Center always offers camps. The cost for the program is $130/week for half
day (morning or afternoon choices) and $205/week full (7:30-5:00) day for non-members. This camp
offers children the chance to try a number of different sports and physical activities along with quieter
projects such as arts & crafts. Their website is: www.impactathleticsnc.com. Click on track out information

early release days for $30.
Durham County Schools – Young Explorers
Sponsored by the Durham County Schools Community Education Department, the Young Explorers
program is located at Pearsontown. Application and payment deadline is March 23. Activities include
games, crafts, sports, field trips, computers and more. There is a $30 annual registration fee (waived for
families in Before or After School Program). Spring camps are offered Mar. 22-26 for the regular fees
(Cost is $130/wk for 1st child and $120 for 2 ; half days are $65/wk) and Mar. 29-Apr. 1 (Cost is $105/wk
for 1st child and $70 for 2 ; half days are $55/wk) . Students should bring a lunch and two snacks. Hours

Lakewood YMCA/Durham YMCA
YMCA intersession camps are open from 7:30am to 6:00pm, and are usually held at the Lakewood
YMCA. However, due to renovations, camps will be held at the Downtown YMCA for the 2009-2010
school year. If they have 10 kids who are interested, they may provide a bus from a southwest Durham
location to the Downtown YMCA to transport kids to and from camp. Activities include gym games,
assemblies, daily awards, arts & crafts, and some field trips. The cost is $152/wk for members and
$193/wk for non-members. Parents provide lunch and 2 snacks. The YMCA also offers Schools Out
Special (SOS) Days for $35/day for members and $45/day for nonmembers. Contact Chuck Gordon,

Success Martial Art
Their program is 7:30-6:00 at a cost of $100/week for members and $125/week for nonmembers. They
offer a 5% sibling discount. Their camp includes a field trip, outside play, arts & crafts, cooking classes
and daily martial arts lessons. Drop-off care is provided from 3:00-6:00pm on early release days for $35.

Dead Broke Farm Horse Camp
This is a horseback riding camp in Raleigh. The cost is $350/week full day and $250/week half day. A
sibling discount is available. Parents must provide lunch and two snacks. To learn more visit their website
This camp is located at Brier Creek Commons in Raleigh for children 10 and under. Their website is:
www.jaspersplace.org and their number is 544-6181. They serve ages 5-12 during Fall, Winter and
Spring at a cost of $175/week and offer lunch choices from places like Jason’s Deli for $20 per week, or
you can bring your own lunch. Camp hours are 9:00-5:30. Extended care is available ($12.50/hr after
camp hours or you can purchase their extended care hour packages. See website for details on prices).
The camps offer a variety of fun activities. Membership fee is $40/year per family. Camps are always
offered. Drop-off care for early release days can be arranged at ~$12.50/hr or $50/day. Prepaid hours are
available as low as $9/hr. $50/day rate includes lunch.
Located in Hillsborough, the Triangle SportsPlex offers intersession programs, summer camps, and also
one day camps. They have camps scheduled for March 22-26, March 29 - April 2, and April 5th. Camp
activities include daily swimming and ice skating, outside play, and arts and crafts, 2 snacks. Hours are
7:30-6:00. $45/day or $180/ for five days, plus a $50 annual registration fee. (these five days can be any
time during the year; they will waive the registration fee if you want to try one camp).

Marbles Kids Museum Camps
Located in downtown Raleigh, this camp offers hands-on interactive camp fun all year. All camps include
museum exploration, an IMAX film and end-of-week parent presentations. The website is:

doing a spring break camp the week of Mar. 29 (four-day week also available). The cost is $230/week for
members and $260/week for non-members. The hours are 9-5. Extended before or after school care is
available for $25 per week. The additional fee is per extended care timeframe (morning 8-9am or
afternoon 5-6pm). They serve K-5th.
Cool Camps for Kids at the Raleigh IcePlex
Cool Ventures for Kids offers a program for ages 5-12 that promotes physical fitness and creativity
through sports, activities, and crafts within a framework of structured activities. Activities include Ice
skating, Hockey, Arts & Crafts, Movies, Board games, Computers, Free Play, Rock Wall, Outside Play,
and Indoor Play. Cost is $165/week, or $45/day. Contact information is 919-878-9002 ext. 111,

RDU Tennis at Five Oaks Club
Located at 5109 Pine Cone Drive (convenient to I-40 near the Orange/Durham county line). Camps are

offered the weeks of March 22 , March 29 , and April 5 .The camp runs from 8:30-5:15 and covers
tennis instruction, drills, and games, a movie, arts and crafts, basketball and soccer (optional). In the
event of rain, activities will be moved indoors. Campers need to bring a tennis racquet, water bottle,
sunscreen, hat, lunch, and tennis shoes. Children are required to pack a lunch every day except Friday,
when pizza is served. Cost is $170/week for non-members; $135 for members; or $50 for drop in days.
No registration fee. A half-day option is available for $90/week. A late pickup option (5:45 pm) is available

This is math/science camp in Cary includes math tutoring for at least one hour, plus math games,
bowling, field trips to local parks, and one bigger field trip per week. Each week is science themed also.
Hours are from 9:00-5:00. Camps fill up, so call early so reserve early. They have a camp scheduled for
March 29-April 2 with the topic of Rocket science, and math and reading EOG practice. They may be
able to arrange pickup in Brier Creek to make travel more convenient. Fee is $225 with a $25 registration

Write More Writing Camps
Write More camps have been developed for students in grades 2 through 8. They are designed to
motivate both reluctant and enthusiastic writers. Each camp has age-appropriate themes and activities. A
special 3-day camp is offered 3/30/10-4/1/1/0 for $90; camp runs from 9:00-12:00.

Piedmont Wildlife Center
Located at 364 Leigh Farm Road near I-40 and NC-54 on the Orange/Durham County line, PWC will be
offering camps for ages 5-14 from 9:00-3:00 from March 22-26, March 29-April 2, and April 5-9. Kids will
have plenty of opportunity to learn and play outside as they discover the flora and fauna native to North
Carolina. Extended care is available for $20-65. $200/week for members; $225/week non-members. 489-

Located at 220 Morris Street, DAC will be offering camps for ages 5-17 March 22 – April 9. Camps run
either from 9:00-2:00 and/or from 2:00-5:30. $130/wk for the morning camp and $90/wk for the afternoon
camp. Sibling discounts are available. You can also sign up for just one day ($30 for the morning option;

Early Explorers Playschool
This program at 5117 Highgate Drive near Southpoint mall is for children grades K-5, offering weekly field
trips and hands-on explorations. Hours of operation are 7am – 6pm. Fee is $135/week.

Hoop City U
Located in RTP, in The Commerce Center, at 4300 Emperor Boulevard, Suite 250, Track Out Sports
Camps combine sports, recreation and fun with every weekly session. Kids have the opportunity to play
games in a variety of sport offerings: basketball, volleyball, indoor tennis and soccer, shuffleboard, ping
pong and dodge ball. Participants will stay active utilizing TK's Jungle, the adjoining children's inflatable
amusement location. Track Out camps operate Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Early drop off and

Located in Chapel Hill at 6407 Mill House Road, Spence's Community Educational Farm is a model of an
old family farm. Activities include horseback riding, collecting eggs from the chickens, collecting and
releasing frogs, "mountain" climbing, pottery, and crafts. Camps are offered March 22-26, March 29-April
2, and April 5-9. Hours are 8:30 - 3:30 (with extended care & enrichment classes available)

Located near Brier Creek, Pump-It-Up offers 3-day Jump-and-Art camps for ages 4-10. They are offering
a camp March 23-25. Camps run from 9:30-2:30 and include lunch. The fee is regularly $150, but is only

Bull City Gymnastics
Located at 4502 Bennett Memorial Road in Durham, this gymnastics camp offers spring camps from Mar.
29-Apr. 2 and Apr. 5-9. Full days are 9:00-4:00 ($200 members; $215 non-member). Half days you can
choose either 9:00-12:00 or 1:00-4:00 ($150 members; $160 non-members). Before and after camp is
