2008 Canola Contract Information
Canola Variety and/or Hybrid Performance Testing Contract between the Agricultural Experiment Station at the North Central Research Extension Center at 5400 Highway 83 South in Minot, North Dakota. On behalf of North Dakota State University (NDSU) Agricultural Experiment Station (AES): the North Central Research Extension Center (NCREC-Minot) extends an invitation to seed companies or their representative to submit entries into our canola variety performance tests. Two separate canola performance tests (dryland) will be conducted; a Conventional trial and a Roundup Ready trial. The Conventional trial include(s) Clearfield (CL) tolerant and Liberty Link (LL) tolerant, canola varieties. All cultivars in the Roundup Ready trial should contain the Roundup Ready gene as the trial will be sprayed with glyphosate during the growing season. The conventional trial will be managed with conventional herbicide strategies. The conventional trial will also contain at least one Roundup Ready check cultivar. All varieties grown at the NCREC must be submitted by the seed companies or their representative. North Dakota registered insecticidal and fungicidal seed treatments are advised and should be applied to the seed prior to us receiving it. Please note that no additional seed treatments will be applied after it reaches the center. Insecticides may be applied to the trials during the growing season, if they are needed. Canola trials will be established on land that was cropped to a cereal grain the previous year. The trials will be managed with the best management practices (BMP) appropriate for our location. Each plot will be seeded at a rate to establish the recommended plant population for our area. Plots are swathed and harvested at optimum time for highest seed quality and yield potential. Assuming a normal spring, planting date will be around May 1-10. Please provide germination percent. If the germ is not known we will use a 90% germination rate to calculate seeding rate. Results from our canola performance tests are published in the North Central Research Extension Center annual report and will be available in early December. A completed data analysis will be available on our website in November at: http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/minot/. The data will also be published in Extension Bulletin A-1124 (revised), “Canola Variety Trials”. Data from these North Dakota State University Agricultural Experiment Station trials shall not be used in advertising to indicate North Dakota Experiment Station recommendation of any specific hybrid. The charge for canola cultivar/hybrid testing is $150 per entry per trial. There will be no refunds in the event of a natural disaster such as hail or frost. We reserved the right to limit the number of entries by any one seed company. The performance tests are intended to compare named cultivars and experimental lines within one year of possible release. The performance tests are intended to compare named cultivars and experimental lines within one year of possible release. The trials are not intended to be used as a screening location for advanced experimentals from your company. If a cultivar/hybrid was tested last year as an experimental, please inform us of the past experimental designation. Below is an entry form that must be completed, specific trial designation (conventional or Roundup Ready) and other required agronomic information must be filled in. We reserve the right to limit the number of entries by any one seed company. The performance test is open to include both commercial varieties and experimental lines. Please submit the completed contract, two hundred grams (200 grams) of seed (100 grams more if large seed or seeds with suspected low germination), and the payment.
