I'm attempting to uninstall SolidWorks 2009 SP4.1 from a Windows 7 machine and
a message popped up during the Installation Manager uninstall process saying that
"SolidWorks Explorer cannot be uninstalled becuase the SolidWorks Explorer Vista Gadget
is running. Stop the gadget then run the uninstaller again".

Unsurprisingly there is nothing in the help about this, and running a system wide file search
for vistagadget reveals only the install log.

How do I stop this gadget running? Where is it. WHat is it called. Help

More to the oint why doesn't the IM automatically stop it anyway?

I found these instructions in the knowledge base:

1) Open the Gadget manager
2) Right mouse button on SolidWorks Explorer- choose uninstall
3) click “OK” to the error message in the installation manager- the installation will
fail (This is expected)

4a) If you are uninstalling SolidWorks, choose “remove” again from add/remove
programs for SolidWorks and go through the uninstall process again

4b) if you are upgrading SolidWorks, run the installation manager again

5) at the “products to upgrade” page, click on “SolidWorks Explorer /Workgroup
PDM” and choose “upgrade”
6) now finish the installation manager (SolidWorks would have already been
upgrading prior to seeing the original error message described in this Solution)
