Position description for Transport Driver for Adult Day Centre
Purpose of Position
The Transport Driver will ensure the safe and comfortable transport of consumers of Southern Districts Support Association. This position specifically relates to our day centre and the transporting of the clients to and from the centre as well as to activities/outings in the community.
Responsible To
The Transport Driver is directly responsible to the Adult Day Centre Manager or their representative and the Coordinator of Southern Districts Support Association.
HACC Definition
The definition for Transport service funded by HACC is as follows; “Transport is assistance provided so that the client may get out of their house and do chores, attend other activities or community centres, and participate in the community”.
Duties:
The Transport Drivers duties as follows: Be responsible for the welfare, comfort and safety of consumers travelling from their homes to the centre or outing and return Meet with the Day Centre Manager to discuss client transport runs and outing routes Report to the Day Centre Manager of any concerns that arise while transporting clients Report in a timely manner all maintenance and repairs required to SDSA vehicles to the Transport Supervisor Be able to communicate with clients effectively and respectfully Assist with maintaining a friendly and fun environment for the clients while out in the community Assist with client care and support during community excursions Participate in training as needed for development of SDSA Staff and services to SDSA consumers. Be familiar with emergency procedures in SDSA vehicles, to ensure the safety of staff and clients Any other duties that may be requested by Day Centre Manager or the Coordinator.

Skills and Experience Required Essential Criteria
A clean West Australian Drivers License, preferable with F-Class Endorsement; National Police Clearance; Good Understanding of Perth Metropolitan area; Ability to work unsupervised. A strong commitment to working with people with disabilities and frail aged persons (HACC Target Population). The willingness to participate in SDSA procedures, eg relevant in-service training, staff appraisal and complete appropriate documentation. Ability to work as part of a team; efficiency and care with performing set duties. Ability to respect the Christian ethos of the Association. Able to fulfil physical requirements of position. A current WA motor vehicle licence is required – ‘F’ class.
Desirable Criteria
Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health standards. A Senior First Aid Certificate is required. Experience in working with frail aged and people with disabilities.

This position will commence in January 2008 – date to be confirmed This is a 12 month Part-time contract – Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, Friday Work hours are 8.30am to 10.30am & 2.30pm to 4.30pm @ 4 hrs per day. Working hours will vary on the weeks that the Day Centre clients go on outings in the community with the driver being required for the full day 7.5hrs per day. Pro rata sick leave, holiday pay and other on costs apply. Salary Sacrificing available after successful completion of 3 months probationary period The commencement salary is $18.45 p/h.
