EXPECTATIONS CONTRACT: Mr. Moore’s Classroom Procedures and Expectations Contract 6th grade Social Studies Throughout the school year, Mr. Moore expects the following of me: 1. Entering the Classroom: I will quietly go to my assigned seat. I will sharpen my pencils before the bell rings. I will go to the back of the room and pick up my text book and turn in my homework in my class’ inbox. I will write what I need to in my planner block. I will work quietly on my Warm-up work and if I finish early, I will wait quietly. 2. When I am tardy: If I am tardy to class, I will sign and date the tardy sign-in sheet and quietly join the class. 3. End-of-period class dismissal: Mr. Moore dismisses the class – not the bell. When he dismisses me, I will make sure all borrowed materials are returned to their appropriate places. I will gather all my belongings and quietly exit the classroom. 4. Participating in class discussions: I will be respectful of everyone in the classroom during class discussions. While I may not agree with their comments, I will respond appropriately. Our class is a team! There will be no tolerance for put-downs, name-calling, or teasing. 5. When I need pencil and paper: If I come to class unprepared without a pencil, I will politely ask Mr. Moore for a pencil. If he loans me a pencil, I will make sure that I give it back to him before leaving his class that day. If I come to class without paper, I will go to the back of the room and pick up a couple of sheets of paper from the student work station before the bell rings and Mr. Moore begins class. 6. Keeping my desk orderly: Any materials I have with me will be placed underneath my desk out of the way. The only materials that will be on my desk are the materials that I need for Mr. Moore’s class. I will not litter the classroom; if I have trash, I will throw it away in the trashcan.
7. Coming to attention: When Mr. Moore needs your attention at the beginning of class, he expects you to quiet down and pay attention to him. 8. When I am absent: It is my responsibility to make up any work that I missed while absent. When arriving back to Mr. Moore’s class, I will go to my assigned outbox and pick up my make-up work folder. I will have 5 days to return the completed work to Mr. Moore in the same folder. 9. Working cooperatively: While working in a group, I will do my best to be productive. I understand that I may not enjoy working with my assigned group. Again, our class works as a team, and this idea is carried over to group work. I will not whine or complain when assigned to a group. 10. Keeping my Notebook: Mr. Moore will keep a running list of the items that should be included in my SWOOSH notebook. I will have notebook checks and quizzes periodically to help me stay organized. 11. When I need help or conferencing: I understand that if I need extra help, Mr. Moore is here to help me. I will approach him before or after class to schedule a help session. 12. When homework is assigned: There is to be NO moaning or complaining when homework is assigned. This may result in a doubled assignment. 13. Passing in Papers: When turning in papers, I will pass papers to the front of the room. 14. Sharpening Pencils: I understand that my pencils are to be sharpened before class begins. If my pencil breaks during class, I will not get up to sharpen my pencil. I will quietly raise my hand and ask Mr. Moore to borrow a pencil. I will then return the pencil to him at the end of class. 15. Moving about the room: If I need to get out of my seat during class, I will raise my hand and wait to be called on. I will NOT get out of my seat to throw trash away, sharpen a pencil, or talk to a friend without permission during class.
16. Headings on Papers: Whenever I am turning in papers (including homework), I will write my name (first and last), date, and class period in the top right hand corner. I will also put a title/heading on the top line to indicate what the assignment is. 17. When a school-wide announcement is made: While I understand that not all announcements apply to me personally, they may apply to another classmate or to Mr. Moore. I will immediately stop talking and will not make any noise during an announcement so that others may hear important information. 18. Walking in the hall during class time: I will represent Mr. Moore and the class the best I can. I will walk quietly in a single file line on the right side of the hall. 19. Responding to emergency situations: During the fire drills or other emergency situations, I will follow Mr. Moore’s directions. 20. When visitors are in the classroom: I will be myself, but I will remember to represent Mr. Moore well. I will complete my work and live up to the expectations that Mr. Moore has for me every single day. Mr. Moore expects nothing but the best from me, especially when visitors are in the classroom. 21. If the teacher is out of the classroom: If Mr. Moore needs to step out of the room, the same rules and expectations apply. I will continue to do my work or wait quietly. 22. If I am suddenly sick: I will quietly approach Mr. Moore and inform him of my illness. I will write a pass in my planner for the clinic and have Mr. Moore sign it. I will quietly go to the clinic. 23. Refreshments in class: I may not eat or drink (except bottled water) in Mr. Moore’s class. I will not ask to get water while Mr. Moore is teaching. 24. Restroom: I am responsible for going to the restroom between classes. If I do not go between classes, I understand that I will not be allowed to go during class unless it is a true emergency.
25. Lockers: I understand that I am to go to my locker during locker breaks only. Mr. Moore will not allow me to go to my locker during class. 26. Saying “Thank You”: I will always say thank you when Mr. Moore, another adult, or even a classmate gives me something. There is no excuse for not showing appreciation. 27. Respect: I will respect all Beck Academy rules, faculty, students, and possessions.
*** Mr. Moore reserves the right to alter these procedures and expectations at any time.
