SALARY:              $19.42 - $21.97 Hourly

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Minnehaha County Information Technology department invites applications for a Computer Support
Technician / Senior Computer Support Technician. This is a full time position with day hours Monday
through Friday requiring the ability to work on a rotational on-call basis. Consideration for appointment as
a Senior Computer Support Technician is dependent upon qualifications. Hourly salary range listed above
is as of January 2010.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES INCLUDE:
Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots workstation computer hardware, software, stand-alone and
networked printers, mobile phones, and other electronics. Provides Help Desk support and online work
request submissions. In addition, a Senior Computer Support Technician will also assist the System
Administrator with servers and perform backups; provide support for all user technology issues; install
patches and updates; respond to user work requests; create and pay invoices; and research new and
current software, hardware, connections, and equipment. Provides specialty end user software support.
Utilizes the web, business partners, vendors and suppliers to research and solve problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two year technical or associate's degree in computer science with two years of progressively responsible
experience servicing PC compatible personal computer hardware and software, including Windows OS,
Microsoft Office, and technical experience working with personal and midrange stand-alone and networked
printers, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to analyze and troubleshoot
problems on computer systems. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work
with a variety of computer users and their skill levels. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with coworkers, other agencies, and the public. Appointment as a Senior Computer Support
Technician requires four years of progressively responsible experience servicing IBM compatible personal
computer hardware and software, including Windows OS, Microsoft Office, and technical experience
working with personal computers and System i devices, or equivalent combination of education and
experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. Working knowledge and skill in the installation,
operation, and maintenance of Intel based personal computer hardware and software with working
knowledge of Local Area Networking technology and practices. Working knowledge of the operation and
configuration of an IBM iSeries Client Access and printers. Current A+ and/or MCP certification. Preferred
qualifications for appointment as a Senior Computer Support Technician also include working knowledge of
the operation and configuration of devices attached to an IBM AS/400 / System i. Current MCDST, MCTS,
and/or MCITP certification.
