Openings for Fall 2010: The Hunter College School of Social Work invites applicants for positions at
the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the support of the M.S.W. and Ph.D. programs.

Background: Hunter College and its School of Social Work have national reputations as leaders in
public urban education. Established in 1958, the School’s mission is to prepare highly competent social
work leaders to work in a variety of professional roles, settings, and communities in New York and
other major urban centers in order to improve the lives of poor, vulnerable, and stigmatized people and
the communities in which they live. The School is committed to recruiting and educating a diverse
student body for work in multi-ethnic, culturally and racially varied communities in New York City
and other major urban areas. Our curriculum, scholarship, and agency partnerships reflect a
commitment to innovation in social policy and practice that values cultural complexity and social
justice for New Yorkers, their neighborhoods, and its’ workforce. The School has 47 full-time faculty,
950 MSW students, and, in conjunction with The CUNY Graduate Center, offers a Ph.D. in Social
Welfare.

Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Social Work or a related field. Also required are the ability to teach
successfully, capacity for productive scholarship, and have a record of service and leadership. Preferred
qualifications include applicants who have an MSW degree, successful teaching experience in more than
one area of the curriculum (particularly in theories of human behavior and/or organizations), at least
two years post masters practice experience, and a proven track record of funded research. Applicants
with demonstrated success in agency and community based partnerships that provide opportunities for
faculty scholarship and the development of improved service models and delivery systems are especially
encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in applicants with a strong scholarly record in
practice and research with children, youth, and families, older adults, and/or mental health and
substance abuse.

Rank and salary: Dependent on academic background and experience.
