SUBJ: CONSENT AGENDA ITEM – Purchase of Automatic Resuscitation System for
Public Safety Department
DATE: December 18, 2008
CC: Jason Stroud, EMS
The Public Safety Department is looking to purchase an automatic resuscitation system that will
generate consistent and uninterrupted chest compressions, while maintaining normal blood flow during
sudden cardiac arrest. Such a unit would be placed in a Public Safety vehicle.
A Request for Quotation was solicited and sent to ten (10) vendors specializing in medical equipment.
Three quotes were received back and the results are as follows:
Michigan Instruments, Grand Rapids, Michigan $10,248
Physio-Control, Inc., Redmond, Washington $13,495
ZOLL Medical Corporation, Chelmsford, Massachusetts $15,185
Because the system will be placed in a Public Safety vehicle it must be a battery powered unit. The
systems quoted by both Michigan Instruments and Physio-Control work from compressed air and
therefore are not compatible with what we are looking for. The unit proposed by ZOLL Medical
Corporation is the only battery powered system proposed.
The EMS Advisory Committee approved funding for this device from excess EMS billing proceeds
and will be paid from account 4-100-032500-6014 (please see attached).
It is recommended that the bid from ZOLL Medical Corporation of $15,185 be accepted for the
purchase of their automatic resuscitation system, the AutoPulse®.
