08/2008-0 I/2009 Research Team Member for University of Florida Lastinger Center
"Secrets of Success" project in collaboration with the Foundation for Excellence in
Teaching to learn about the teaching practices of highly effective teachers. Conducted
interviews with reading teachers; analyzed transcripts across categories; generated
themes and guidelines; and wrote draft for publications.

02/2008-Present Discourse Analysis of metalinguistic journals from engagement used in
content area literacy course examining the ways of thinking in the disciplines and
preservice teachers' understandings of the implications for teaching. Journal article in
progress.

Patricia Anders. Department Chair. Designed course curriculum, recruited mentors. and

01/2006-05/2006 Co-Instructor for Teacher Research Course for Graduate Students
with Dr. Kathy Short, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona. Co-planned and co-taught
teacher research course framed by inquiry cycle. Presented past and current research from

elementary preservice and service teachers. Course framed by whole language theory and
a psycholinguistic view of reading to situate phonics in the language cueing systems.

District: Instructor of Developmental Reading courses for TASP bound students in urban
setting. Guided adults developing as readers and writers for successful transition to a
degree program.

Texas. Responsible for schooVdistrict staff development and mentoring of teachers.
Involved in planning of curriculum on-site and for district. Provided materials and
modeled lessons to support teachers in the classroom. Disaggregated testing data using
Filemaker Pro/ADM computer system for planning and evaluation. Coordinated school­
wide TAAS/TAKS plan and worked closely with testing coordinator. Taught Sixth Grade
reading/writing workshop. Supported Eighth Grade developing writers through
photography. Designed and taught Reading Intervention program for Sixth and
Seventh Grade students. Coordinated and led book club for teachers. Co-created and
implemented school-wide plan as member of Campus Improvement Team.
