Job title                  Sales Team Leader

Location                   Based at Stevenage. The company reserves the right at anytime to require you to
                           work at a different location in the Hertfordshire area, either on a temporary or
                           permanent basis giving you reasonable notice of this requirement.

Reference

Reporting relationships/   Reporting to the (Advertising Manager] who reports to the Commercial Director
                           Direct reports: Sue Pinney – Advertising Manager
                                            (20 staff)


Job purpose                To manage and provide day to day support to the Classified sales team[s] so that
                           volume, revenue yield and profit are maximised in line with each product’s sales
                           strategy.


Job Dimensions             Management dimensions – the job scope includes day to day running of the Trades,
                           Property, Reception bank, Recruitment and Front desk with assistance to
                           Royston office and authority over the team. Although the Team Leader is expected
                           to work with little or no direct day to day supervision from his/her Manager, individual
                           and team targets and monitored weekly.

                           The Sales Team Leader is responsible for a range of sales activities that make an
                           identifiable impact on the success of the business unit. There is scope to introduce
                           new sales concepts and to create significant growth opportunities.

Main responsibilities      To ensure that the volume, revenue and yield profit targets are met or exceeded,
                           order to increase business activity by:
                                        Agreeing and cascading appropriate target;
                                        Monitoring individual and team performance;
                                        Ensuring the appropriate level of conduct with potential
                                        and existing customers maintained.
                                        Actively contributing to the development of key accounts;
                                        Identifying and following up on new business opportunities
                                        both locally and for National Sales;
                                        Developing innovative revenue-generating new ideas, e.g. features,
                                    exhibitions or special publications;
                                        Promoting the benefits of Archant and Archant products
                                        Weekly sales meetings
                                        Weekly reports
                                        Analyse yields/reports

                               •    To support the Advertising Manager to manage, motivate and develop staff
                                    in a manner that reflects Archant values so that staff feel involved, valued
                                    and committed to achieving high performance standards
                               •    To ensure that excellent relationships with customers are established and
                                    maintained so that business may be retained, problems resolved quickly and
                                    efficiently with minimum impact on the business, and new business
                                    opportunities identified
                               •    To establish and maintain good communications with editorial, brand teams,
                                    production, and finance so that publications can be produced efficiently and
                                    time scales can be met, and any problems can be resolved quickly and
                                    efficiently with minimum impact on the business
                            •    To keep own skills and knowledge up to date, especially in respect of
                                 subjects that are directly relevant to the job, e.g. legislate requirements,
                                 product knowledge, competitive titles, local affairs.
                            •    To work in accordance with Archant’s polices and procedures and in a way
                                 that reflects Archant’s core values of Innovation, Openness, Quality and
                                 Commitment.

Working relationships   The Sales Team Leader will have contact with most departments of the Company,
                        including planning, Production, Editorial, Creative Design, Credit Control,
                        Distribution, Marketing, IT, Training and other Archant sales teams. Key external
                        relationships are with advertisers, advertising centres and advertising agencies.

                        These relationships are very important. The manager must work together with teams
                        who may have conflicting priorities. This requires the ability to see the bigger picture
                        of the business, and to influence peers and more senior managers.

                        Similarly relationships with his/her own staff are critical to the success of the
                        department. The Sales Team Leader must be able to assist the Advertising
                        Manager to coach, persuade and mentor.


Most Challenging        The Sales Team Leader must motivate staff to achieve targets in a very competitive
part of the job         market place, and to meet goals within fixed deadlines

                        He/she may have to deal with a range of issues, some of which may be difficult or
                        sensitive

                        working environment and that staff are trained in safe working practices.
