COMMUNITY YOUTH FORUM

Dr. Ephraim Williams Family Life Center and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office will provide families a
safe place to learn about community and cultural differences that affect families, and introduce the community’s youth
to gang and gun laws, the criminal justice system, and to family service agencies.
· Learn about Adult Time for Adult Crimes Laws
· Truancy Law and Juvenile Offenders
· Special Presentation on Gang Violence and Gun Laws
When: Saturday, March 27th, 2010 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
(Breakfast served at 9:00 a.m. - Program starts at 10:00 a.m.)

Assistant Public Defender Jo Ann Harris
Gang prosecutor and law enforcement will educate community members and youth on consequences of gang
violence and gun usage. Information will be provided about programs including mentoring, after school,
GED, Job Corps, parenting skills and gang violence prevention.
There is no fee for this event, breakfast and lunch are provided. For more information, please contact

                      time for adult crimes)

11:15 – 11:45         Superior Court Judge Troy Nunley (truancy and juvenile
                      offenders)

11:45 -- 12:00        Lunch

12:00 – 1:00          Deputy District Attorney Anthony Ortiz, SPD Captain Dan Hahn,
                      and SSD officer Brandon Luke (gang and gun law presentation)


A few questions will be taken at the end of each speaker. The last presentation will be a
PowerPoint so we need to have that capability. Students will receive community service
credits for assisting in the setup and take down for the event, in addition to their
attendance.


Resources:

SSD Community Service Specialist Kathleen Kennedy will have pamphlets and
information about services/programs available to community members, information
regarding Job Corps, obtaining a GED, 1203.4 dismissals of old criminal cases, and
Neighborhood Watch.

DDA Hilary Bagley will be available to provide gang and community prosecution
information.

Press release for event will be sent out by DA office. Charles will have announcements
sent out through church newsletter and regular media outlets, including schools in the
area. There will also be an announcement during the regular church services.
