									Installation Manual

This manual will describe the installation and configuration of the SecureW2 client for the use of the
wireless network at NIKHEF through username/password authentication. When using this way of
authentication no MAC address registration is needed. This form of authentication also can be used at
institutes and universities which have SURFnet as ISP. Before you can use it at another location than
NIKHEF you must import the certificates from the local authority at that location. As this software is only
suitable for Windows XP SP1 (or higher, so better use SP2) only installation on that platform will be
covered. For installation and configuration of the wireless network adaptor you must refer to the manual
supplied with that hardware.

The installation of the software will start when you run SecureW2_NIKHEF.exe, this will install the client
software and the necessary certificates. The first screen you will see is the welcome screen:

To continue click “Next >” on this screen and “I Agree” on the next one.
Now you have to select the language (English or Dutch) before continuing the installation.

Click Install.
The credentials to enter are the (NIKHEF UNIX) username and password, for the domain you must type
“nikhef.nl”.

Click OK after completing filling in Username and Password (twice).

When on your laptop Windows XP Service Pack 2 has been installed you get the following Alert:

Click OK.
After the installation has been completed you must restart your machine.

Click Finish.

After rebooting the laptop now the network connection must be configured. To do this you must go to Start-
>Control Panel->Network Connections. Choose the properties for the “Wireless Network Connection”.
Select the “Wireless Networks” tab, if there is an entry NIKHEF-W in the list of “Preferred networks” this
must be removed.

To create a new entry select “Add…”:
Windows XP Windows XP SP1 or later

As SSID you must type eduroam. When your Windows XP has SP1 or later installed check the box
“Connect even if this network is not broadcasting”.

      Now select the Authentication tab.
At the “EAP Type” select SecureW2 as client.

Select Properties to select the eduroam profile, this has the username, password and domain settings given
on installation.
Now the installation and configuration is complete. Exit all screens with OK. When everything has went well
the “Network Connections” window might show “IP Address”, “Subnet Mask” and other information about
the working connection.
