Second Annual “Let’s Drive Out Hunger” Program Is a Success

March 16, 2010 01:25 PM Eastern Daylight Time

QUINCY, Mass.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--The Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation
announced today the completion of its second annual “Let’s Drive Out Hunger” program, raising $57,000 with 73
participating agents to aid local families and organizations in the fight to combat hunger in Massachusetts. The
program ran from December 2009 through the end of February 2010, and is a direct response from Arbella
Insurance Group to the alarming growth in hunger in Massachusetts. Designed to be a challenge grant, the program
encourages and supports Arbella agents across the state as they give back to their communities. Arbella matches any
and all Arbella agents’ gifts to food pantries and food banks in their communities. With a 2-1 match with up to a
$500 Arbella Foundation contribution per agent, Arbella effectively triples the agents’ donations to the organizations
in their communities.

“I am tremendously grateful to all our agents who participated, making this year’s program a success,” said John
Donohue, chairman and CEO of Arbella Insurance Group. “Working to combat hunger is a primary mission of the
Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation. We have a long history of partnering with and supporting local food
pantries and other Massachusetts charitable organizations, and we can think of no better time to make a push to
combat hunger. In this tough economy, food pantries and banks need more support than ever to service their
communities.”

This year the program was expanded to include homeless shelters as qualifying organizations in addition to food
pantries and food banks. The downturn in the economy has had a cascading effect, causing many of these
organizations to experience cuts in state funding, just at a time when demand for their services is at an all-time high.

“Our agents are throughout the Commonwealth and are incredibly active in their communities,” Donohue added. “By
bundling our contribution with theirs, we increased their impact in their home communities.”
