Why we need to change What the options are We are consulting on the transfer of patients from the Surbiton Hospital site. Option 1 - Move all inpatient services sited at Surbiton Hospital to alternative sites The condition of the roof is the main factor which has led us to the belief that We need to find alternative arrangements for 27 patients in intermediate care patients must be moved off site before the onset of winter. The health and (rehabilitation) beds and 8 patients in continuing care (longer term and safety of our patients is our primary concern and a spell of bad weather in palliative care) beds. We have identified Tolworth Hospital, Kingston Hospital August highlighted the need for urgent action. A condition report of the roof and and Local Nursing Homes where care for these patients may be provided: other areas undertaken in August confirmed that the condition is poor and further temporary repairs and constant maintenance are not recommended. It For the kind of patients we have described above there are 3 possible options: has been estimated that the cost to rectify the problems in time for winter will be in excess of £300,000. The only way to fix the problem to see us through Option A the winter would mean taking money from patient care. We decided that this • Intermediate care beds to vacant Tolworth Hospital ward was not a possibility and so our consultation does not include an option to • Continuing (longer term) care beds provided in local nursing homes leave patients on the Surbiton Hospital site over the coming winter. funded by the PCT Option B What the consultation covers • Intermediate care beds to vacant Kingston Hospital ward • Continuing care beds to nursing homes funded by the PCT This consultation covers the following options: Option C • Moving patient services at Surbiton Hospital to alternative site or sites, or • Intermediate care beds to vacant Kingston Hospital ward • Moving all services at Surbiton Hospital to alternative site or sites in order to • Continuing care beds to vacant Tolworth Hospital ward guarantee the health and safety of patients. There is not enough vacant space at Tolworth Hospital to accommodate both As soon as the safety of Surbiton Hospital patients is guaranteed over the intermediate care patients and continuing care patients. winter, the PCT is committed to talking to the public and its partners about future health services on the site.
