Curtin’s MBA climbs in world MBA rankings C205/07 3 October 2007 Curtin’s Graduate School of Business (GSB) Master of Business Administration (MBA) is amongst the best in Australia and in the top 80 in the world according to the latest ranking of full-time MBA programs published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), publishers of The Economist. The ranking of 80th in the world is up from 91st last year, and the GSB also ranked sixth internationally in the criterion of personal development and education experience Only three Australian universities were ranked in the top 100; Monash University at 43, Curtin at 80 and Macquarie Graduate School of Business at 84. The Economist Intelligence Unit’s latest ranking complements the recent Australian Financial Review’s BOSS magazine rankings where Curtin ranked first in Western Australia and fifth in Australia. Director of the GSB Professor Robert Evans said that the achievement demonstrated the quality of Curtin’s programs on an international scale and the great value of its MBA “We have climbed up a significant number of places from our previous position on the EIU league table. This is a great testament to our staff and students as well as our highly active GSB Alumni chapter,” Professor Evans said. “Much of our success can also be put down to our new careers service which was developed and implemented this year. “The Curtin Business School Postgraduate Career Development Program includes individual CV and career counselling, career seminars, a careers expo, as well as a weekend at Rottnest with a focus on opportunities.” The GSB is a multi-disciplinary, semi-autonomous, graduate school offering an internationally accredited MBA program and Masters in Leadership and Management. Media release archive Curtin’s MBA best in Australia for improving student skills C193/07 20 September 2007 In a survey published in the Australian Financial Review’s BOSS magazine, Curtin’s Graduate School of Business (GSB) Master of Business Administration (MBA) has been ranked number one in Australia for improving the skills level of its students. The AFR BOSS magazine noted that the GSB “scored highly in a number of specific categories: it ranked first in terms of level of skills improvement achieved by its alumni; second when it came to value for money and third in alumni satisfaction with the school.” Specifically the school ranked number one in Australia for development of leadership skills, teamwork skills and environmental and corporate social responsibility in its graduates. Curtin’s overall AFR BOSS ranking was first in Western Australia and fifth nationally behind the Australian Graduate School of Management, Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Melbourne Business School and Monash Business School. Professor Robert Evans, Director of Curtin’s Graduate School of Business (GSB) is delighted with the outcome and attributed the school’s performance to its high entry standards, top-quality students, the highly active GSB Alumni chapter and dedicated staff. “We offer a very innovative teaching program focusing on business leadership, and an exclusive City Campus,” Professor Evans said. “We have flexible delivery methods to meet the needs of our highly experienced student body and offer career counselling services.” The GSB is a multi-disciplinary, semi-autonomous graduate school offering an internationally accredited MBA program and a Masters in Leadership Management. “The AFR BOSS ranking complements the Economist magazine’s Economic Intelligence Unit’s MBA ranking where we score in the top 100 internationally,” he said. This is the first year AFR BOSS has ranked university business schools’ MBA programs in a numbered list. AFR BOSS canvassed the views of almost 1000 alumni who completed their MBA between 2002 and 2006. It is the first time they have compared business schools based on alumni opinion alone and without direct participation from the universities. The overwhelming message from the survey is that graduates rank universities that provide real business experience very highly. Many respondents perceive a MBA as a ticket to an expanded career and threequarters said that this is either their most important or second most important reason for undertaking an MBA.
