pr.963. Rugby Club and Football club join forces with council DATE : 24 March 2004

TRI-HARD -THREE TEAMS WORKING TOGETHER

A meeting has been held today with Harrogate Town FC, Harrogate Rugby Club and
Harrogate Borough Council.

The meeting had been called to clarify the council’s strategy for the development of
sport in Harrogate with regard to the future of the Rugby Club at Claro Road and
Harrogate Town FC at Wetherby Road.

A full and frank discussion took place. Strong views were aired from all sides but it
has cleared the way for the teams and the council to go back to the drawing board
and combine their strategies for the good of the two sports in the town.

Mr Bill Fotherby, Chairman of Harrogate Town FC, said: “We can now see a future
and a way forward. This gives us encouragement to know that, should we progress
up the league, there is a vision for a new ground in the town.”

Mr Frank Carter, Chairman of Harrogate Rugby FC, said: “I am pleased that we have
now been given the opportunity to discuss one of our options for the future survival of
the club.”

The council will facilitate a working party, which will involve all three sides to create
outlines and options. All parties understand the need for urgency, as both clubs
need to have the matter resolved as quickly as possible.

Council Leader, Mike Gardner, was very supportive and is pleased to see all parties
working together. He said: “There may be a way forward which will be to the benefit
of the town, the clubs and the community. I am looking forward to continuing these
invaluable discussions where the three parties are all on the same side.”
