Confex 2006

Hollybourne Hotels is a group of five hotels in Hampshire and Surrey and
what marks this group out are the key locations that the hotels occupy. The
group comprises Alton House Hotel in Alton Hampshire a small historic town
with a surprisingly large commercial sector and excellent road links via the A3,
A31 and M3. The Georgian House Hotel has a leisure market but is also
within reach of the large towns of Guildford and Godalming.

Farnham house hotel is the smaller hotel in the group but is convenient for a
host of business centres and Farnborough, home of the international air show.
The chain continues with the Manor house Hotel in Guildford, now a major
commercial centre with many multi national companies. The Red Lion Hotel
completes the chain so far, in the vibrant business area of Basingstoke and is
the only hotel in Basingstoke town centre.

The group has been built up carefully over the past 20 years, the beginning
being the acquisition of Alton house Hotel, a small grade 2 listed town hotel
that sat unusually for its location in over three acres of grounds, then
Hollybourne Developments a multi award winning local house builder saw its
potential for not only expansion but running it as a successful business
focusing primarily on customer service. This philosophy continues today with
the acquisition of the Red lion hotel in Basingstoke last July which has a new
Restaurant and café bar opening in February 2006 with a dedicated
function/conference room to follow in April 06, with further substantial
expansion planned.

Hollybourne hotels now employs around 200 staff and is headed by the
founder Tony Bailey and director, David knights who has been in the hotel
industry for 25 years. Marketing and Sales Manager, Jonathan Waugh is
representing the company at Confex along with the Managers of the Red Lion
Hotel, Mark Nicholson and Peter Dunbar of Alton House Hotel, the company’s
two Hampshire hotels.

The company decided to exhibit this year having been invited as a partner of
Hampshire conference part of Hampshire county council. Jonathan
commented ‘we were pleased to be asked by Hampshire conference
particularly as it shows faith in us as a supplier company to Hampshire county
Council. As a relatively small firm being a stand partner is a great opportunity
for exposure at a show such as Confex. Our only question was how can we
compete with the large chains but all we do is offer our high standard three
star hotels which have good conference and leisure facilities at very
competitive prices’

Training and development is another area that continues to expand at
Hollybourne Hotels which introduced last year a Management training and
development programme to bring on some of the brightest younger
employees. The firms original commitment and internal mission statement
‘Friendly and efficient service’ continues today more than ever backed up by
an extensive ongoing training programme. As David knights, director says ‘it
no matter how much we invest in properties, adding bedrooms, refurbishing
conference rooms, providing leisure facilities it is our people we must also
continue to invest in’. For further information on Hollybourne hotels just visit
