Savvy. Accomplished. Disciplined. Principled.
the loyola executive mba and mba fellows programs are a lot like you.
The characteristics that set the Loyola Executive MBA (EMBA) and MBA Fellows candidates apart in the business world are what set our programs at The Sellinger School of Business at Loyola College apart from the competition.
A premier business program and one of less than 6% of the world’s business schools accredited both in business and accounting by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), The Sellinger School of Business at Loyola is firmly grounded in the Jesuit tradition of excellence.
PREMIER PROGRAM JESUIT TRADITION
Dedicated to developing the “whole person” our programs are carefully , designed to create ethical thought leaders who can take business ideas to a higher level here in the U.S. – and in the global marketplace. Because the programs are part of Baltimore’s first and oldest MBA programs, Loyola’s Executive Program graduates come away with a powerful connection to a vast network of thousands of alumni at hundreds of top-level organizations across the region and around the world.
STRONG ALUMNI NETWORK

Choose a program that’s out in front and put yourself in the same position.
There’s a lot to be said for being first, especially when it comes to business. That’s why you’ll be glad to know that when you choose either the Loyola EMBA or the MBA Fellows, you’ll be part of a program that pioneered the concept of executive business education in the region – and the world.
THE SELLINGER SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
What makes us different.
• The Loyola EMBA Program is the fifth oldest in the world, and the only one offered in Baltimore. • The Loyola MBA Fellows Program is the first of its kind in the region – a Saturday program for rising leaders.
What are the Programs’ advantages?
In addition to a strong alumni network and ethics-based Jesuit tradition, both the EMBA and MBA Fellows Programs feature a unique, integrated learning experience. Unlike many programs that segregate skill set development and strategic thinking into distinct, encapsulated courses, each class in Loyola’s programs is thematically organized to incorporate these two critical components. This integrated process, combined with the experience of faculty and students working together, serves to strengthen personal effectiveness and foster leadership development.
• HIGH SPEED LOCK STEP CURRICULUM – You’ll get down to business immediately in a program that admits qualified candidates without prerequisites. A sequential, integrated curriculum takes you from key business foundations to a laser-sharp strategic focus that allows you to earn an EMBA lightning-fast – in less than 2 years, and an MBA Fellows in just 2.5 years. • COHORT LEARNING – Learning side-by-side with seasoned peers from diverse industries and of similar age and experience levels gives you in-depth exposure to a broad and deep range of competitive outlooks and strategic approaches. • TEAM APPROACH – Business goals are rarely achieved by individuals, which is why Loyola’s programs hone team skills by requiring students to work on projects in teams of four to five students. • CASE METHOD & SIMULATIONS – Each week, you will take away relevant, immediately applicable knowledge, skills, management techniques, and problem-solving approaches through dynamic, real-world classroom activities, including the case study method and live competitive business simulations.

Convenience and flexibility get you closer to your goals.
Thanks to a convenient location and a schedule which allows Executive MBAs to meet one day a week on alternating Fridays and Saturdays, and the MBA Fellows to meet on Saturdays for a half day each week, the programs fit into even the busiest lifestyles.
Build on the strengths of a structured program.
•
EXCITING CLASSROOM & FIELD EXPERIENCES
– In addition to class work, you’ll have the chance to learn from high-profile practitioners, guest speakers, corporate site visits, private “insiders” tours as well as year-round continuous learning and networking events sponsored by Loyola’s very strong Executive MBA alumni network.
•
INTERNATIONAL FIELD STUDY – EMBA and MBA Fellows students will experience global business firsthand during a 9-day travel study tour of emerging markets typically in Asia, South America or Europe. CAPSTONE STRATEGY PROJECT
•
– At the end of the program, small teams put their cumulatively acquired skills, strategic thinking and knowledge into action in a hands-on Capstone Strategy Project that challenges you to translate what you’ve learned into real-world solutions for all types of businesses – an entrepreneur, local small business, or non-profit organization.
•
– A Jesuit tradition of reflection punctuates the program’s end with a student-planned Retreat that includes community service, leadership speakers and personal visioning.
END - OF - PROGRAM RETREAT REAL EXECUTIVES
•
– While other programs claim to be “Executive” yet often have younger average ages, your Loyola EMBA Program classmates will be higher-level professionals with 8 or more years of management and/or professional experience. MBA Fellows Program classmates will be rising, high-potential managers and fast-track professionals who have been identified by their organization for leadership growth.
•
NO GMAT REQUIREMENT – Rigorous and demanding, admission to Loyola’s EMBA and MBA Fellows Programs doesn’t hinge on the results of a standardized test. Provided that a candidate can demonstrate prior undergraduate or graduate academic success, and has a proven track record of significant professional leadership roles and well-developed communication skills, no GMAT is required.

LES MATTHEWS, MD, EMBA 2003 chief of orthopedic surgery, union memorial hospital
medstar health
Why would a highly successful orthopedic surgeon and busy department head carve out time to earn an advanced business degree at Loyola? For Dr. Les Matthews, it was about more than simply developing the business acumen to run his department and gain a better understanding of the healthcare business world. It was about personal growth and the rewarding experience of returning to the academic environment. Of course, that’s not to say that enjoyment was the only benefit Dr. Matthews got out of the program. The Loyola EMBA Program’s emphasis on strategic thinking gave him insights he put to practical use re-engineering nursing services as well as fine tuning the department’s strategic planning course and partnerships. And thanks to what he describes as “the deepest and richest alumni network in the area,” he came away with contacts that have helped him further expand the department’s circle of business partnerships. "I’m a big advocate of the Loyola EMBA," says Matthews. "It’s an incredibly rewarding and enriching program. And as far as fitting it into your schedule, if I can do it, anyone can do it."

THOMAS CARROLL, EMBA 2008 president
diversified insurance industries, inc.
Tom Carroll sticks with things. The first job he got after graduating college with a degree in finance and accounting was as an insurance agent and Tom ended up staying with it for 22 years. During his steady climb up the ladder he saw the industry change and the company grow from 25 to 100 employees. After ascending the ranks and moving into operations he realized that, as they say ‘to whom much is given, much is expected’ and that he “didn’t have the skills to be the best for the people who depended on me.” He chose Loyola’s EMBA Program in large part to live up to both the expectation others had of him, and those that he had for himself. Although, as he says he didn’t have “an ounce of time” to spare in his schedule, he made room for it. And in the end, Tom will be the first to tell you, “It was a sacrifice that was well worth the effort. Achieving this goal is not so much about getting a diploma that says I’ve earned this credential, it’s about the person you become in the process of achieving that goal. I’m a better businessman – and a better person – because of my Loyola EMBA experience.”

ALEXANDRA PETTITT, EMBA 2008 director of investor relations
under armour
As the Manager of Merchandise Strategy and Operations, Alex Pettitt only needed to understand one element of the business. When she became Director of Investor Relations for one of the fastest growing performance athletic brands in the world, she needed to understand Under Armour’s entire business to effectively communicate with the financial community. That’s when she decided it was time to fulfill her goal of earning an advanced business degree through the EMBA Program at Loyola. “Being able to articulate Under Armour’s growth strategy as well as how we operate on a wide range of topics from product commercialization to IT, is a major challenge,” said Pettitt. “And the Loyola program allowed me to learn the fundamentals on a wide variety of subjects from the faculty as well as my incredibly diverse group of classmates.” In addition to broadening her business perspective, the program’s focus on strategic thinking and global markets helped Pettitt rise above the day-to-day routine and look ahead to think about where her company was going. Here in the United States. And around the world.

WHERE RISING STARS GO TO SHINE EVEN BRIGHTER
Designed specifically for high-potential business professionals on the fast-track to success, the AACSB International-accredited MBA Fellows Program delivers a structured curriculum in a team-based learning environment. Completely compatible with your jam-packed schedule, the program features a compact Saturday format that can accommodate those whose weekly schedules don’t allow for Fridays, other weekdays or evenings out of the office or away from home.
What distinguishes our MBA Fellows candidates.
Our typical MBA Fellows student has known success early – and often. Candidates usually have about 4 to 6 years of increasing management and/or professional experience. Others have been targeted for growth within their for-profit companies, not-for-profit organizations or government agencies who want to give their future leaders the advantages of a well-paced, structured degree program culminating in an executive skill set.

TED BOWES, MBA FELLOWS 2006 president
excell concrete
As a Senior Project Manager slated for bigger things at his company, Ted Bowes decided to enroll in the Loyola MBA Fellows Program to prove to his employer that he had the skills and knowledge he needed to take over the reigns. What he wound up with was an education that gave him the confidence and business network connections that allowed him to strike out on his own. “This program is not just about books, though,” said Bowes. “Just as important was the support of the cohort structure. It was like having an angel on your shoulder the whole time, saying ‘Do it! Do it!” His team’s encouragement combined with “gut check” ethical training, strategic thinking, and an understanding of global markets gave him the edge he needed to move beyond what he calls a “field of dreams” contractor to become a powerful competitor in the construction industry. From the business plan that grew out of a class project and a first line of credit that came through a business-owner advisor, to the classmate who became his company comptroller, Bowes found everything he needed to transform his MBA Fellows “Team Excell” into Excell Concrete.

MARTIN FIENKENG, MBA FELLOWS 2007 director of it infrastructure
ciena corporation
A native of Cameroon with a Ph.D in Civil Engineering, Martin Fienkeng’s career path has taken him from the big-picture world of building roads and bridges to the nano world of IT management by way of the Loyola MBA Fellows Program. Working as a manager, Dr. Fienkeng knew that he had the technical and leadership experience to head a department of the IT organization, but realized he needed solid business skills to give his employer the confidence that he could move up. With Loyola’s high national rankings and a campus conveniently located near his office, the MBA Fellows Program was a natural choice. The result is his current position as the Director of IT Infrastructure. In addition to the program’s emphasis on “outside-the-box” strategic thinking and ethical business practices, one of the things Dr. Fienkeng appreciated was the diverse environment which fosters incorporation of various backgrounds, cultures and ideas. “I liked the sense of discipline. The program fits my personality.”

GRETCHEN GOSS DEREWICZ, MBA FELLOWS 2006 state mission delivery director
the american cancer society
While earning an MBA from Loyola was always one of Gretchen Derewicz’s career aspirations, the prospect of a regional merger of American Cancer Society’s offices made her realize that now was the time to get the 30,000 foot strategic business perspective she needed to make the most of the opportunity. In addition to putting herself in a strong position for the upcoming job restructuring and subsequent career growth, Derewicz was happy to discover that she could apply the theories and concepts in real time. “I found it very motivating to be able to implement classroom techniques like the military-inspired ‘After Action Review’ exercise at the American Cancer Society,” said Derewicz. “Now after every event, our team “huddles” to review how we prepped, what happened, what the results were, and how we could do better the next time.” Although family connections brought her to Loyola, her affinity for the program has since blossomed into a wider alumni network. “I made lifelong friends in the program,” said Derewicz. And thanks to her participation in the Loyola MBA mentoring initiative, it looks like she’ll continue to make them.
