Chief Instructor’s Message

Exercise your mind and body.
Achieving your vision in sport you have to dedicate a lot of time and effort, challenging the
physical barriers that you and others have set. At the same time you need to develop your
mental ability. Studying for school or work achievements will help you succeed in sport.
It works the other way as well, if your vision is an academic achievement, the challenges you
face demand effort and dedication and at the same time you need to develop your physical state.
It has been proven that participating and achieving in TaeKwon-Do will help your academic
SUCCESS.

Meaning of Jun Tong

It was asked by one of our Students what Jun Tong means. A brief history lesson may give
you a better understanding of where we come from, how we got here and what Jun Tong
means.
This club has been running for the past 19 years, commencing in 1987.
It was open by Chief Instructor Mr George Gabrielides under the banner of Rhee TaeKwon-
Do.
The decision to leave Rhee TaeKwon-Do was not an easy one, however due to limitation in
training and the rule of restricting competitions which restricted our club from growing in every
way we felt we had no choice but begin our search for the true teaching of TaeKwon-Do.
In December 1999 we decided to join Universal TaeKwon-Do, Ten months later, due to
similar reasons and realising that UTF was a breakaway from ITF, we decided to search for the
real TaeKwon-Do that General Choi Hong Hi founded and called ITF. (International TaeKwon-
Do Federation)
In 2000 we decided to train on our own until we found a National or International body that
followed the original teaching of ITF.
In February 2001 a meeting of all Black Belts was called to decide what the new club name
should be. It was suggested we call it Traditional TaeKwon-Do. It was agreed by all, so we
translated Traditional in Korean which translates to Jun Tong. The emblem was designed with
the input of all students and in July 2001 the registration of a new martial art club sealed the
name Jun Tong International TaeKwon-Do.
In 2002 we decided to align ourselves with The Australian International TaeKwon-Do
Federation (AITF) that is directly affiliated with International TaeKwon-Do Federation ITF
