◆Program
Overview
Kun San University (KSU) is proud to relay this unique opportunity to international high school graduates who are interested in obtaining a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering. KSU is one of the few universities sponsored by the International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), to offer such an unprecedented four-year collage program to outstanding international students. KSU has long partaken in various internationally cooperative projects. In 2002, KSU worked side by side with TaiwanICDF to provide technical assistance in plastic injection and precision mold to Costa Rica and Republic of Dominican. Technical staffs from Taiwan worked in these two countries to offer courses and on-site problem solving assistance. KSU has also hosted a series of international symposiums on bio-engineering, nano-technology, and precision molding, thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. The current program is designated to nurture students to be novel and well-cultivated engineers and scientists with good expertise for modern engineering. The goals of current program include: 1. To encourage foreign students to learn relevant culture courses as selective ones, thus enabling students to learn within a multi-cultural environment. 2. To make arrangements for students to have opportunities as an intern, to visit and interview Taiwan technology industries in order to understand Taiwan technology industrial models. We hope to increase foreign students’ desire to work in Taiwan in the future. 3. To cooperate with famous schools, recognize each other’s programs, promote dual academic degrees together. 4. To invite visiting professors to give lectures in the program. Create and increase the interactions between students and visiting professors.

◆Program
Objectives
Kun Shan University locates at the suburb of Tainan city, which was the capital of Taiwan from1900. Only five miles to KSU locates Tainan Science and Industrial Park, which is a village dotted with high-tech manufacturers. In the village stands the headquarters of world-leading TFT-LCD manufacturer, CMO, and the largest IC OEM firm in the world, TSMC. The core courses of this program include CAD/CAM, materials, mechatronics, opto-electronics, energy science, and green technology. Courses of Chinese culture and local culture are also offered. Visiting and apprenticeship to local injection machine and mold makers is added into the training courses as well. The required courses include special topic project that is designed specifically to cultivate students to be future leaders in areas of plastic injection and precision mold. In terms of humanism, the aim is to cultivate students to be aware of social values in the entirety, with the purpose of fully understand different influences and changes in which technology will be brought to our society. In fierce global competitions, Taiwan’s high-tech industry appears to be the unique operating management models, which are well-known for qualities, such as: fast delivery, high mobility, combination between industries and completion of machinery systems. The program is designed to combine nearby technological industry’s relevant information and resources entirely. Our faculties will include professionals from technological research departments and technological enterprises. Furthermore, internship opportunity and technological industries visits will be part of the program.

Elective Courses: Introduction to Computer Science and Practice, Introduction to nanotechnology, Micro-electro-mechanical system, CAD/CAM, nano bio-optics, Reverse Engineering & Rapid prototyping, and Micro-sensor systems & energy.
◆Admissions
I.
General Qualifications: 1. The applicant should be an international student from Central America. 2. The applicant, who graduated from a high school or a vocational high school, which is recognized by Ministry of Education, Taiwan (R.O.C.), can apply for admissions.
II. How to Apply: Applying by post. Please send one of your application documents to KSU and another copy to Taiwan Embassy (which is in your country). KSU address is as followings: International Office, Kun Shan University No. 949, Da-Wan Rd., Yung-Kang City, Tainan County 71003, Taiwan (R.O.C.) (Note: Those who have incomplete documents or illegible handwriting on their application forms will result in a fail application.)

III. Application Deadline: The application deadline is May 31st. The date of your application is decided by postmark. IV. Application Documents Required: 1. One photocopy of high school diploma (presented in English), which must be issued by your alma mater and must be authenticated by Taiwan Overseas Offices in your country. The applicant, who is this year’s graduates, must submit his/her diploma when registering KSU. Otherwise, the admission will be cancelled. 2. The applicant must pass oral examination conducted in English at KSU. The applicant who passes the TOEFL CBT test over the grade of 197 or paper test of 530 will have the priority to be examined. 3. Three recommendation letters, which should be from your academic professors, in which he/she could prove your academic potential for advanced study. 4. Your high school transcripts, which should carry official seal of your alma mater and must presented in English. 5. Health certificate: Your health certificate, which is a result of your health examination taken from governmental or public hospital within the past six months. 6. The applicant has to hand in one copy of study plan in English (which must be a well-organized piece of work with more than 1,000 words.) 7. Other materials that will help the Admission Committee to assess the applicant’s potential.

Some Issues about Application: 1. The applicant should make sure that himself/herself is an eligible applicant and should check correctness of all application documents. 2. The application with missing articles, incomplete forms, or illegible handwriting will not be accepted by KSU. The applicant cannot do any change to his/her application documents after sending them out. KSU will not return any application documents to the applicant, no matter he/she is accepted by KSU or not. Therefore, please make a photocopy of all your documents by yourself before sending them out.
◆TaiwanICDF Scholarship
TaiwanICDF scholarship will provide the students with following expenses: monthly allowance, health insurance premium, dormitory fees, book expenses, tuition, and miscellaneous fees.

Notice
1. The minimum credits for undergraduate students of this program will be 128 credits in total. 2. Students are graded on a scale of 100 being the highest and 60 being the passing grade. Required courses, if failed, must attend again. 3. Any absence of classes should hand in a legal excuse paper beforehand. 4. Two students of the same sex will be assigned to live in the same dormitory room. Observation of dormitory rules is a must. 5.
