3.1 The Eco-Schools Programme demonstrates that the school is committed
to the Healthy Schools Programme. A healthy school promotes the health
and well-being of its pupils and staff through a well planned, taught
curriculum in a physical and emotional environment that promotes
learning and healthy lifestyle choices. (Source: National Healthy Schools Status
      - A guide for schools).

3.2 From September 2005, OFSTED expect schools to demonstrate how they
are contributing to the five national outcomes for children as illustrated in
the Every Child Matters and Children Act 2004 – those being healthy,
staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution,
      and economic well-being.

3.3 As part of the Eco-Schools Programme, one of the modules is Healthy Eating.
Pupils are encouraged to make healthier food choices and are taught about
healthy eating and what it means.

3.4 Pupils are also encouraged to be more physically active. As a result of the
Eco-Schools Programme, many schools have set up gardening or vegetable
patches which have provided not only an outdoor learning experience for
the pupils, but also a physical activity as they dig and create the garden.

3.5 Pupils can participate in the debate and setting up of tasks to achieve the award,
which demonstrates making a positive contribution.

3.6 Work on the Eco-Schools Programme contributes
to the Self-Evaluation Form (SEF). The SEF
can be completed by the school. It can
show that the school is addressing the
5 outcomes in the Every Child
      Matters Report (ECM).
