					CONSER Standard Record - Differences from Current Serials Cataloging

130 or 240 Uniform title

Currently uniform title is added if the title proper of a serial is exactly the same as the
title proper of another serial.

CONSER standard record requires uniform title for the above situation only if it's a
monographic series or a generic title which does not have main entry under 1XX.

Also currently used for original title on records for translations.

CONSER standard record will use linking entry 775 and added entry instead. (Not
approved by JSC yet.)

245 $b Other title information (subtitle)

Now required if it's an acronym or initialism of the title, if it includes a statement of
responsibility, or if the title consists solely of the name of a corporate body.

CONSER standard record not required. Add acronyms or initialisms as 246 instead with
indicators 30. Can add 246 with indicators 3 blank for other subtitles. (Not approved by
JSC yet.)

245 $b Parallel titles

Now required if on chief source of information.

CONSER standard record not required. Add as 246 instead with indicators 31. (Not
approved by JSC yet.)

245 $c Statement of responsibility

Now required if appears prominently on the chief source.

CONSER standard record not required if there is an authority record. Add as 7XX.

260 $c Date of publication

Now required if cataloging from first issue.

CONSER standard record not required.
362 Enumeration and chronological designation

Now in formatted form if cataloging from first issue. In unformatted form if not
cataloging from first issue but know when began.

CONSER standard record will always be in unformatted form, e.g.:

Began with Vol. 1 (2006). (If know it was called Vol. 1)
Began with 2006. (If there is no volume designation)
Began in 2006. (If don't know what it was called)

Captions, months, etc., can be transcribed as on piece or abbreviated per AACR2.

500 Description based on note

Now given if not cataloging from first issue.

CONSER standard record will always give.

500 Latest issue consulted note

Now given if have more issues than the one used for cataloging but it has not ceased.

CONSER standard record will always give if have more issues than the one used for
cataloging.

550 Issuing body note

Now required to justify added entries.

CONSER standard record not required if there is an authority record. Add as 7XX.

730 for supplements.

Now required along with 772 for supplements that are cataloged on a separate record.

CONSER standard record not required. Only need 772, not 730 too.
