 No formal entry requirements. You will have to attend an interview with a member of the
 Foundation Level 1 team and have a satisfactory school reference. (If you already have
 GCSEs in English and Maths at grade D or above, you should apply for a higher
 level programme).


 Course Content
 A practical course for those who may want to work with children. The course studies
 human growth and development, caring for children, the importance of play, nutrition and
 social interaction. Students will also learn to prepare and cook meals for a variety of age
 groups. Students will attend a work experience placement at a local nursery and may also
 have the opportunity to study a first aid qualification. Students will complete a portfolio
 without the need to sit a formal exam to achieve their qualification aim.
 If you need to develop your basic skills in English, Maths and IT and need more time
 to think about your future career then this is the course for you. Students have the
 opportunity to work in small groups with extra study support as well as help in dealing with
 problems through their personal tutor. learners on this course are supported by a learning
 Mentor. The Mentor’s role is to help students complete the course successfully. This may
 involve supporting their classroom learning but also providing support with other personal
 issues that might arise during the course.

 Progression
 Certificate in Childcare and Education and NVQ level 2 in Early Years Care and Education,
 BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care, or NVQ 2 in the work situation.

No formal entry requirements. You will be interviewed by a member of the Foundation
Level 1 team and must have a satisfactory school reference. Your interview will include
a diagnostic skills assessment to help us identify the best choice programme for you.
(If you already have GCSEs in English and Maths at grade D or above, you should apply
for a higher level programme).


Course Content
The health, care, children’s and community justice sectors are some of the largest areas
of employment in the UK. These courses will give you a good insight into the wide choice
of job roles By trying out the skills yourself in practical situations they will allow you the
chance to find out what will suit you best. You’ll be working with local providers of these
services and finding out how they work together to put the people they serve first.
The course will also help you to develop your personal thinking and the common
skills that are key to successful learning and future employment including Maths,
English and ICT with the opportunity to undertake real work placement.
If you need more time to think about your future career then this is the course for
you. Students have the opportunity to work in small groups with extra study

 Course Content
 This course provides an overarching understanding of the four sectors of Society,
 Health and Development and how they work together. The sectors are: children and

 component is based on a case study/scenario approach in the context of the workplace.

 undertake work placement.

Course Content

 Employment in a private home or day nursery caring for babies and young children,
 or progression to a CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education level 3 with GCSE
 at A* - C in Maths and English or an NVQ3 in the work situation.

Four grade Cs at GCSE including English, Merit at CCE/NVQ2 or BTEC First Diploma Health
and Social Care.


Course Content
The course includes observation and assessment of children, child development,
education and health, social studies, two days a week in practical training placements –
family, day nursery, nursery school or class, infant/primary school and short special
needs placement. You will also study for certificates in First Aid, Food Hygiene,
Basic Health and Safety, and Deaf Awareness.

Progression
Working with children up to 7 years 11 months in a variety of situations. Alternatively,
students may go on to further study in related areas e.g. Diploma in Social Work,
or Diploma in Nursing or a BEd degree (additional entry qualifications required).

 entry requirements
 There are no formal qualifications required but the ability to demonstrate competence at
 the required level will be assessed prior to entry on to the course.


 Course Content
 Apprenticeships are all about learning on the job – combining valuable experience with
 relevant study. Adult Apprenticeship is offered at level 2 and Advanced Apprenticeship
 at level 3. The award is offered for Health & Social Care and Health. It is suited to those
 who work in a care setting in any discipline.
 Both apprenticeships are made up of 3 elements:
 �  at echnical certificate: Theory based award. Covering the core units of the NVQ
   – Communication, Health & Safety, Developing Knowledge & Practice and Ensuring
   Equality. This will demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed to perform in your
   profession. The level is equivalent to the NVQ level undertaken.
 � a national Vocational Qualification (nVQ): This award proves that the knowledge
   gained in the technical certificate can be demonstrated in practice. As well as units
   specific to job role.
 � Key Skills Qualification in n   umeracy and Literacy: These help you develop basic
   skills needed in employment.

 Assessment of both the Technical Certificate and the NVQ are carried out in the
 workplace. The Key Skills are assessed by an examination.

 Progression
 Successful level 3 students can progress on to the DipHE Nursing or a degree
 in Social Work.
