                                                       Greenhouse Gas Baseline Tool

This tool was developed for Climate Wise partners to aid in the process of developing a preliminary
greenhouse gas (GHG) baseline.

Read this information about Macros first.

In order to develop a GHG baseline for your company, you will need the following information:

           • utility bills (preferably for at least one year) including electricity, water, and natural gas
           • vehicle miles traveled and vehicle type
           • airline miles traveled (or at least an idea of what trips have been made)
           • quantity of fuels used for other purposes (i.e. diesel, propane)
           • quantity of solid waste landfilled
           • quantity of materials recycled

Utility Data
GHG Baseline Krioussis 2009, Prepared by Bruno G Krioussis, 2009, version 2

                         • Please enter utility data for electricity, natural gas, water, and any delivered fuel oil (propane can be found under transportation).
                         • If you are purchasing wind power or other carbon offsets, please contact Climate Wise staff to determine how to best include your
                         offsets in the baseline tool.
                         • If total annual consumption data is available instead of monthly data, simply enter the value in the Sum row.
                         • For partners with more than one meter of the same type, note that you can change the meter type by clicking on it.
                         • Partners with more than 9 meters can achieve data entry by aggregating values by meter type (i.e. summing all electrical meters into
                         one entry).
                         • Water use types are defined as follows: Consumptive - water that goes to the wastewater system (i.e. dishwashing), Non-
consumptive - water that will not go to the wastewater system (i.e. irrigation), Raw water irrigation - untreated water utilized for
                         irrigation.

Transportation Data
GHG Baseline Krioussis 2009, Prepared by Bruno G Krioussis, 2009, version 2

          • Enter vehicle mileage traveled (VMT), fuel type, and vehicle type. If your vehicle type is not listed, please select a similar vehicle or contact Climate Wise for guidance.
          • Enter quantity of fuel used and choose fuel type for fuel uses (i.e. diesel used for a generator).
          • Enter airline miles traveled (AMT). A web-based tool is provided for looking up airline miles for a particular trip.
          • For partners with more than two vehicles, direct fuel uses, or airline flights, data entry can be achieved by aggregating. For example, sort your vehicles into types such as trucks and cars and enter
          values for each category.
          • Fuel Efficiency Factors are provided to aid the user in choosing an appropriate vehicle type. For example, one might use this factor to determine whether "full-size", "mid-size", or "sub-compact" best
          describes their vehicle.

GHG Baseline
GHG Baseline Krioussis 2009, Prepared by Bruno G Krioussis, 2009, version 2

This is a summary of your company's greenhouse gas emissions based on the data
input on previous sheets. When your baseline is complete, upload it on your

                                                      Greenhouse Gas Baseline Tool Help

The following is a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ):

1. Can I save the data I've entered for future use?
Yes, the ClimateWise Green House Gas Baseline Tool is the same as any Excel spreadsheet and can be
           saved in the usual fashion.

2. I would like to create baselines on an annual basis for comparison, how should I go about it?
The simplest way to do additional baseline evaluations is to maintain a separate file for each baseline.

3. Where can I find more information about the GHG Tool, including definitions and examples?
Please refer to the 2007 Climate Wise Resource Guide or contact Climate Wise staff for additional
          assistance with the GHG Tool.

4. When my GHG Baseline tool is complete, how do I satistfy the Climate Wise tier requirement?
Login to your myClimate Wise account and upload the Excel workbook under that requirement.
                                                                                                                v 10.23.2009

                                                    Greenhouse Gas Baseline Tool

The changes implemented in this version of the Greenhouse Gas Baseline Tool compared to the previous
version released 01.14.2009 include:

-Updated electricity factors based on changes in community inventory approach to electricity factor and
2008 electricity portfolio. Factor increased by approximately 4%.

-Updated natural gas factor based on community inventory adopting an improved factor from The Climate
Registry. Factor increased by approximately 1%.

-Emission factor for water treatment and distribution was updated using new electricity and natural gas
factors.

-Emission factor for solid waste disposal was updated based on community inventory adopting modeling of
the Larimer County Landfill in place of national aveage. Factor decreased by over 300% because the
Larimer County Landfill produces less methane.

-Reductions in emissions due to recycling are now represented as upstream in the material's market as
opposed to being subtracted from your inventory. This is consistent with accepted methodologies and the
new approach to the community inventory.

-For airline travel, the additional impact beyond simple carbon dioxide emissions is recognized, as it was in
the previous version of the tool, by applying a Radiative Forcing Index (RFI) calculation. The RFI
calculation is recognized by many bodies, including the IPCC, for the additional impacts of changes to the
atmosphere including altered distribution of gases due to airline NOx emissions, the direct affects of
aerosols, and those associated with cloud formation. This figure should correspond with many online
airline emission calculators.

-The emissions baseline is now being represented in metric tons in addition to short tons. The Climate
Wise program may transition to metric tons to align with the community inventory in coming years.

-Minor updates to instructions and language were made throughout the tool.
