University Staff Fee Remission Policy Eligible staff To qualify for fees remission a member of staff must have a contract with the University. The staff member must also have a contract that runs for at least the duration of the academic session in which they first register. A staff member will normally only be granted fees remission if they are following a programme of study that will lead to the award of a higher qualification than they already have. If a member of staff receiving fee remission leaves the University’s employment during their period of study they will usually become liable for fees at the normal rate. Where a member of staff is employed on a part-time contract, fee remission is offered on a pro-rata basis. Children of staff Children of eligible staff members are entitled to 50% remission at “home fees” rate for all years of undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes of study. They are not eligible for fee remission on postgraduate research programmes. Fee Remission on Undergraduate Programmes All eligible persons may receive 50% remission at the “home” fees rate for any undergraduate programme, provided (normally) that they do not already have a qualification at this level. Fee Remission on Postgraduate Programmes All eligible persons at the University may receive 50% fee remission on taught postgraduate programmes at the “home” rate, provided (normally) that they do not have a qualification at this level. All eligible staff may receive 50% fee remission on postgraduate research programmes, at the “home” rate, provided the programme is related to their work within the University and that they do not have a qualification at this level. Fee Remission for Training and Development Programmes in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education All University staff whose contracts specify a duty to teach (i.e. non-research staff) will receive 100% fee remission for these programmes.
