Enhanced Capital Allowance / Technology Lists
Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECAs) enable a business to claim 100% first-year capital allowances
on their spending on qualifying plant and machinery. There are three schemes for ECAs:

    Energy-saving plant and machinery
 Low carbon dioxide emission vehicles and natural gas / hydrogen refuelling infrastructure
 Water conservation plant and machinery

Businesses can write off the whole of the capital cost of their investment in these technologies against
their taxable profits of the period during which they make the investment. Even if you do not want to
claim the ECA, you can use the lists of approved water, energy and low Carbon vehicle technologies
to help you choose a product. www.eca.gov.uk

Carbon Trust SME Loans
The Carbon Trust offers interest free Energy-Efficiency loans to qualifying organisations with the
potential to invest in energy-savings projects that replace or upgrade existing equipment. The amount
borrowed must be between £5,000 and £200,000 and is repayable in up to 48 equal instalments with
0% APR interest.

You can apply for a number of energy saving projects under one grant application, including installing
pipe insulation; loft insulation; thermostatic radiator valves, cavity wall insulation; double glazing; new
light fittings (not new bulbs) and lighting controls. The scheme is open to private sector small and
medium sized organisations. The cost-saving and energy-saving potential of the proposed project will
be assessed. To qualify, the estimated value of the energy saved over 5 years must exceed the loan
amount. (If payback of the whole project is over 5 years, it is possible to apply for a loan for a smaller
amount - the estimated value of energy saved over 5 years.)

based social enterprises who wish to access in depth specialised social enterprise business support
using the Business Link Supplier Matching Services. A social enterprise is „…a business with primarily
social objectives whose surpluses are primarily reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the
community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profits for shareholders and owners.‟
