RESIDENCE TELEPHONE INSTRUCTION
using Personal Identification Number (PIN)
To set up a telephone account, please go to the Reception/Office in your College

•     Dial # 6 (Campus East) OR dial # 7 (International House / Weerona) & enter your allocated PIN __________

•     Dial 0 to get an outside line (you should here the dial tone). At this point you can use a telephone calling card
      by following the instructions on the back of the card after dialling 0

•     For overseas calls dial the IDD access code (0011), country code, area code & then the telephone number

•     For STD calls dial the STD code & then the telephone number

•     For local calls dial the telephone number

•     For internal calls around your campus or directly to the University dial the extension number

IMPORTANT – please note:

Please memorise your PIN or keep this copy in a safe place. If another student uses your PIN the calls will be
charged to your account.

When you have used all your credit, there will be no dial tone and the call will not go through. To gain further
access you will need to make further payment & add credit to your account.

Also note that the system will not terminate your call when you have used all your credit and you may over run the
credit limit. Avoid making extended long distance calls as they may be very costly.

Promotion discount rates from various carriers do not apply to our telephone system.

If your call is not answered hang up the phone within 15 seconds or the call will be charged.

You can check your credit balance by dialling ext: 5935.

Pay/Top Up your Telephone Account Online:
Visit:- http://www.uow.edu.au/about/accommodation/ Select > “Pay Fees Online”

To access your account information you require the following
• Student number
• Telephone PIN number

Telephone Dialling Prefixes:

Telephone numbers are prefixed (start with) +61 2 for international external calls to Australian campuses of the
University of Wollongong. A prefix is the first 4 numbers and an extension the last 4 numbers.

•     If your telephone extension begins with 1:                        the prefix to your telephone number is 4298
•     If your telephone extension begins with 3 / 4 / 5:                the prefix to your telephone number is 4221
•     If your telephone extension begins with 74:                       the prefix to your telephone number is 9310 8
      (7 replaced with 8)
•     If your telephone extension begins with 78:                       the prefix to your telephone number is 4448 0
      (7 replaced with 0)
•     If your telephone extension begins with 80 through 82:            the prefix to your telephone number is 4221
•     If your telephone extension begins with 83 through 89:            the prefix to your telephone number is 4252
