							                                                   “Marriage Preparation”
Marriage Preparation classes (“Before You Tie The Knot”) are offered bimonthly at the University of Florida,
Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service in Brooksville. Each class consists of two evening workshops
that are held on the third Monday and Tuesday of the listed months and participants must attend both sessions to
receive a certificate of completion. There is a $10 registration fee per couple.

The Extension classes will fulfill the requirements of Florida Statute 741.04, Marriage Preparation and Preservation
Act, that became effective Jan. 1, 1999. A $32.50 discount on the marriage license is given for couples who have
completed an approved premarriage course and the waiting period required upon applying for a license is waived.
The Extension class has been approved by the Circuit Court of Hernando County, the Circuit Court of Citrus County
and the Circuit Court of Pasco County for licenses issued in those counties.

 Please note that if a church wedding is planned, it is important that the couple contact their minister or priest.
Although the University of Florida Extension course fulfills the state requirement, additional classes may be
required by your church.
