LSCR Retainer and Hourly Contract Service Agreement
Cost
LSCR hourly and retainer contracts are billed at rates from $64 to $69 per hour. For hourly contracts, there is an initial twohour up-front change, and for retainer contracts the up-front charge is for five hours. The hourly rate for the up-front billing is determined by the type of contract: These are the rates for the current fiscal year, PC/Mac desktop support Web/database work Unix $64 $64 $69
Any additional work after the initial up-front hours will be billed at an hourly rate specific to consultant performing the work; in most cases, this will be same rate as the up-front charges. All costs and dates are estimates. If it appears that completing the service request may exceed the estimate, LSCR staff will normally consult with the customer regarding options or preferences. In all cases, the client will be billed for the actual number of hours of work performed after the initial up-front hours have been used up. Billing will take place approximately every two months.
Caveats
No guarantees are implied or given for service covered under this agreement. All contracts expire at the end of the fiscal year (June 30). Refunds cannot be given for any hours remaining of the up-front charges. LSCR will respond to requests for service as quickly as possible. However, the actual response time will depend on the type of contract and the availability of staff. As discussed below, retainer contracts have a higher priority than hourly contracts.
Differences between hourly and retainer agreements
Hourly and retainer contracts are similar, but they differ in the following ways: Hourly contracts are generally intended for one-time services that will likely require little or no follow-up once the initial work has been completed. Retainer contracts are generally intended for ongoing services (such as the support for a lab, a server, a website, or an unusual computing configuration). Work on hourly contracts will be provided by LSCR staff on a "time available basis" and have lower priority than retainer contracts. No specific response time can be guaranteed for an hourly contract. As mentioned above, there is a five-hour up-front charge for retainer projects versus a two-hour up-front charge for hourly projects. At the end of each fiscal year, unless directed otherwise, retainer contracts will be automatically renewed whereas hourly contracts are not. In most cases, if a client wishes to renew an hourly contract, it will be converted to a retainer.
