WINE COUNTRY INN’S THE RAFORD INN OF HEALDSBURG

The Raford Inn of Healdsburg bed and breakfast, a designated historic landmark, is for lovers,
romantics, and all travelers interested in lodging at a truly unique place in time. Located in the
Russian River Wine Region in Sonoma County, just a half mile from the Russian River and a
few miles south of the Healdsburg Square, it is a place “where dreams spring forth from yesterday.”

As it has for more than 125 years, this charming and inviting Victorian country manor sits high
on a hill and presides over a fertile, unpopulated, and unspoiled Russian River Valley. The
Raford Inn is ideally located at a gateway to the picturesque and abundant Sonoma County
Wine Country. The classic, three-story home built in 1880, is of authentic Victorian-era French
Colonial design, with original Queen Anne accents. The breathtaking vineyard views, towering
palm trees, beautiful landscaping, and grand staircase leading to the splendid veranda, provide
a wonderful setting for the whimsically traditional interior appointments. Lovingly preserved,
the Inn includes six comfortably elegant guest rooms. Three of the rooms have a fireplace. All
rooms have a full private bath and feature tasteful antique furnishings including a queen-sized
bed.

In the morning, guests will feast on hearty, expertly prepared, country cuisine served at the
great table in the common room. After breakfast, they can walk the lovely grounds, filled with
antique roses and alive with fascinating birds. A short half-mile stroll down a country road
brings guests to a secluded beach along the Russian River. A wide array of activities is readily
available, according to the season and weather, including winery tours and tasting. The Inn is a
great starting point to venture into the Wine Country of the Russian River, Dry Creek,
Alexander, Chalk Hill and Green Valleys. Outdoor interests include hot-air balloon rides,
cycling, swimming, canoeing and kayaking. Or, guests can choose to visit giant redwoods, take
a mudbath, get a massage, or explore Sonoma County’s scenic backroads and the spectacular
Sonoma Coast. Nearby natural wonders include Armstrong Redwoods State Park (Guerneville),
the Sonoma Coast (Jenner and Bodega Bay), and Russian River beaches. The eclectic shops of
Sebastopol and Healdsburg pique a shopper’s interest while the region’s numerous world-class
restaurants tempt the palate. There is something for all interests: biking, hiking, walking, wine
tasting, river sports, natural history, or simply relaxing,

Step Back into the 19th Century

While enjoying the view on the veranda, relaxing in the sunroom, or curled up by the fireplace
in the living room, guests can delve into the fascinating history of the home. Raford Peterson’s
family lived here and worked the land for 100 years before it was sold and converted into an
inn. The original 1,300 acre property was once planted in hops. Now, vineyards prevail and the
remaining four acres are a sanctuary for an Inn that is not merely a place to shelter travelers, but
is also a home where the spirit of graceful, congenial country hospitality lives on. For more than
25 years, the Raford Inn has provided bed and breakfast guests a comfortably elegant stay in the
wine country without the busy feel of downtown. Gaze through the towering palm trees across
the grapevines and step back into the 19th century.

Breakfast in the 1880’s Dining Room

Each morning, the Inn serves a hearty breakfast in the original dining room. Innkeepers Dane
Pitcher and Rita Wells feature organic ingredients whenever possible as well as foods from their
own gardens. Typically, guests enjoy a fruit dish or homemade granola with yogurt. The main
entree changes daily and can include tasty dishes such as Stuffed French Toast Soufflé or
Artichoke Frittata with sun-dried tomatoes. Fresh orange juice and pastries always complement
the meal. As the delightful aromas fill the Inn, guests have a cup of Raford’s specialty coffee or
tea and enjoy the veranda until breakfast is ready. Most guests find themselves skipping lunch
after such a substantial breakfast.

An Evening Reception

After a long day of travel or wine-tasting, guests come back to The Raford Inn and relax. In the
evening, the Inn serves complimentary local wines and hors d'oeuvres against a background of
beautiful valley views and spectacular sunsets. The veranda is an excellent spot to forget about
reality and just imagine the simpler life of the 1880s. The innkeepers can provide dinner
suggestions as well as assist with a wine country itinerary.

1880’s Charm – Modern Conveniences

The Raford Inn features modern amenities against the graceful backdrop of a Victorian inn. For
guests’ convenience, all rooms feature: air conditioning, Bose Wave CD player, a full, private
bath in each room, spa services, queen bed and robes. For further comfort, Raford is a “no
smoking” inn. It also offers an evening wine reception, full, country breakfast, tea and coffee
service, nightly sweets, digital satellite television and Wireless Internet.

Special Treats and Packages

Guests can enjoy the winter wonder of Sonoma County with the Inn’s various winter packages.

weddings and receptions for up to 100 people. With beautifully landscaped gardens and world-
class views, it is the ideal place for the perfect wedding or event. In addition to owning The
Raford Inn, Rita Wells is a licensed therapist and Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. The Inn is
thus pleased to offer wellness, spa and massage packages.

Getting There

The Raford Inn is located at 10630 Wohler Road, Healdsburg, CA, in the Russian River Wine
Region in Sonoma County. It is just a half mile from the meandering and lovely Russian River
and a few miles south of the well-known Healdsburg Square. It is one and a half hours from San
Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge and two and a quarter hours from the Sacramento area.

The Raford Inn of Healdsburg is a member of the Russian River Inns. Innkeepers Dane and Rita
invite guests to join them with the following poem:

“There is a place not far away
where friends and lovers come to stay
a special place where cares may stray
And dreams spring forth from yesterday . . .”
