ix Acknowledgments This history builds upon four histories previously printed that covered 1813 through 1982. Prepared in a collaborative effort between the Majority and Minority Committee staff, the update of this history benefi ted signifi cantly from the guidance, contributions and cooperation of a number of Congressional offi ces, including the Congressional Research Service, the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, the U.S. House of Representatives Offi ce of History and Preservation, the Offi ce of the House Historian, and the Government Printing Offi ce. Within the Congressional Research Service, Judy Schneider, a specialist in American Government, deserves special recognition and appreciation for her very important contributions to this document and her expert knowledge. Thanks to her team at CRS, especially Michael Koempel whose contributions to this publication were signifi cant, also to Elizabeth Bazan, Christopher Davis, Betsy Palmer, Elizabeth Rybicki, and Kevin Gates. Thanks to Dr. Donald Kennon, the Historian at the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, who provided “A Brief History of the Judiciary Committee 1813–2007”; Barbara Wolanin, the Curator with the Architect of the Capitol, who provided guidance on the history of the Committees’ meeting rooms; Felecia Wivchar, a clerk in the History and Preservations Offi ce of the U.S. House of Representatives, who was instrumental in researching and locating many of the Chairmen photographs; and, Anthony Willis, a research assistant in the Offi ce of the House Historian, who also helped to locate photographs. Special thanks go to the Government Printing Offi ce production staff including Jerry Hammond, Lyle Green, Janice Sterling, Joseph Benjamin, Jamie I.
