        John is a Council Weed
          Officer.
Here he is with sons Hayden
          and James
        “We’ve done the plan now
          we are attacking the
          weeds”

                                     protect the community
                                     from weeds.
                                     “Our Weed Officer is really
                                     skilled. We have plans for
                                     all our weed programs and

Mayor Reg gets an idea at the NRM
                                                  body meeting:
                                           “Our weeds program needs to
                                             address climate change.”

                                                  Reg: “Our weeds program needs
                                                  to address climate change. Our
Council will take the lead on this –
                                                  John, can you help?”

                                                  John: “Well I don’t know. I went
                                                  to a symposium about climate
change. I’ve spent all this time
                                                  working on plans and strategies.
Now they you want me to do it
                                                  again!”

              John thinks about it!

What will happen to the industries
                                              we are protecting?
                                            What about the natural systems?
                                            Will our herbicides work?
What about biofuels – will these
                                              be the next weeds?
                                            – It is all too hard!”

“It can’t be all that hard”

                           He gets out the plan.

“Council’s priority is to prevent new weeds establishing,
finding and eradicating the last of the Miconia, containing
the other important weeds. With other widespread weeds we
will help landholders who want to protect their land.”

               John knows the plan!
“Basically our highest priority tasks are:
                                – Exclude and prevent,
                                – Find, prevent spread and eradicate, &
                                – Contain.
These will still give us the biggest
                        payback with climate change!”
