							 PRINCIPAL 9
Promote sustainable production and consumption, through appropriate use
of environmentally sound technologies and effective demand management.

“Demand management, which includes accurate valuations
of natural resources and increasing public awareness, is a
valuable strategy to support sustainable consumption. This
approach can also provide significant savings in
infrastructure investment. Sustainable production can be
supported by the adoption and use of environmentally sound
technologies that can improve environmental performance
significantly.”
(UNEP Principles ~ Elaboration of Principle 9)

Council – Strategies for Council's organisation which contribute to this Objective

Council can only achieve the outcomes it seeks for the City with the aid of a modern, well managed
organisation. It will equip, allow and reward its people to work with innovation and imagination
in the City’s interest. Generational change is occurring … younger people bring new attitudes and
approaches. Modern communications technology is facilitating closer involvement. Council’s
workplace must adapt to these and other changes. It will continue to recognise the obligation for
them to be provided with a safe, secure and satisfying workplace … (Strategic Plan pp, 2,14)
