PRINCIPAL 9
Promote sustainable production and consumption, through appropriate use
of environmentally sound technologies and effective demand management.
“Demand management, which includes accurate valuations
of natural resources and increasing public awareness, is a
valuable strategy to support sustainable consumption. This
approach can also provide significant savings in
infrastructure investment. Sustainable production can be
supported by the adoption and use of environmentally sound
technologies that can improve environmental performance
significantly.”
(UNEP Principles ~ Elaboration of Principle 9)
“Sydney’s rural lands are increasingly being
appreciated for their intrinsic value and the agricultural
productivity they bring to the growing metropolitan
area… The City and Western Sydney economies are
under represented in knowledge intensive business
employment… critical to providing people with those
advanced skills and local graduates with employment
and retaining them in the local community...
Generational change is occurring in the workforce,
as… younger people bring new attitudes and
approaches.”
(Strategic Plan 2005-2009: Penrith City - the
Competitive Edge)
