Council of Commonwealth Associations

A small steering group of Commonwealth Associations has been developing plans for a Council of Commonwealth Scout Associations. This will be debated at the Commonwealth meeting in Tunisia in September and, if approved, will help us in our aim to be part of closer connection between Scouts from all of the Commonwealth countries. Tsunami We have all been deeply shocked by the disaster affecting so many people in countries around the Indian Ocean. As you would expect, Scouts have been to the fore in raising funds and sending help to those affected as well as keeping in our prayers all the people bereaved, injured or made homeless. The Scout Association has a special section of its web site which deals with the disaster and gives ideas: http://www.scouts.org.uk/tsunamiappeal/ index.html
The Council aims to help Scouting in the South Pacific to develop. Four Branches of the UK Scout Association are members: • Solomon Islands • Tuvalu • Tonga • Vanuatu The Council has produced a plan, called New Horizons 2013 which sets out some targets for the future. The UK Association fully supports the plan and will do everything possible to work with the Branches and the Asia Pacific Scout Region to see the plan come to fruition. Our long term aim is to see all our Branches that wish to do so become free standing members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement – and in the meantime to have as close a link as possible with the Asia Pacific Scout Region.
Chief Scout of the United Kingdom You will all have seen the announcement of the appointment of Peter Duncan as the UK’s Chief Scout. We’re sure that the Branches join all of us in the Association in welcoming Peter to his new role. Tuvalu We are delighted to announce that Scouting is developing once again in Tuvalu. Good luck to Rev Puafitu Faaalo and his team in all their work!
