All students must wear their school number attached securely and clearly visible in 10cm. Numbers, to BOTH Front and Back of singlet or T-Shirt. THIS IS IMPORTANT. NO NUMBERS - NO HOPE OF A PLACING - in other words, DISQUALIFICATION. (Same number as issued for Track and Field Championships.) If not known please ring the SASSSA Office (8235 0411). 2. COMPETITORS MAY RUN IN 1 RACE ONLY, PROVIDED HE/SHE IS QUALIFIED BY AGE: (AS ON JANUARY 1ST, 2003). 3. Competitors must assemble at the starting line 5 minutes prior to the starting time of the event on the programme - a long whistle blast and a PA Announcement to assemble will be given. 4. THE START: (a) Short whistle blast 1 minute before the starting time, calling competitors to be ready for the starter’s call. (b) Starting time - command will be:- “COMPETITORS TAKE YOUR MARKS”. (c) Starter will then fire the gun. 5. Competitors WILL NOT RUN IN TRACKSUIT PANTS - appropriate athletics gear is essential. Spikes are permitted. 6. MAPS: We ask that you familiarise your students with the course (i.e. hilly areas, flat areas, number of laps and finish procedure). 7. There is NO RESTRICTION on the number of competitors a school can enter. However, FOR U13, U16, U17 AND OPEN AGE TEAMS: (i) Any Number of Competitors per school can compete - BUT THE FIRST THREE RUNNERS TO FINISH are considered the Team Members. (ii) WINNING TEAM - Decided by adding up the placing’s gained by each school’s first 3 Placegetters. (Lowest total number wins). (iii) TIE - Winner decided on the position of the last scoring team member to finish. FOR U/14 AND U/15 AGE TEAMS: (i) Any Number of Competitors per school can compete - BUT THE FIRST FOUR RUNNERS TO FINISH are considered the Team Members. (ii) WINNING TEAM - Decided by adding up the placing’s gained by each school’s first 4 placegetters. (Lowest total number wins). (iii) TIE - Winner decided on the position of the last scoring team member to finish. 8. FINISH AND RECORDING PROCEDURE: (a) COLLECT PLACE DISC at end of race and take to your school area and report to your Team Manager. (b) At end of a Race, the Team Manager puts Place Disc in Envelope provided, fills in student names and placings on Front of Envelope, then hands the envelope into the RECORDERS TABLE as shown on the grounds and course layout map. THIS MUST BE DONE WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF THE COMPLETION OF THAT PARTICULAR RACE. DO NOT HOLD TILL END OF DAY. 9. PROTESTS: These must be made in writing and handed to the School Sport Officer within 10 minutes of the completion of the race. The protest will then be brought to the attention of the Chief Referee for a decision. N.B. These usually arise from competitors not completing the course, or failure by Course Marshals to supervise competitors properly. Competitors must follow the marked course. Any deviation will result in disqualification. i.e. red flags or bunting on the left, white flags or railings on the right must be adhered to. Competitors must familiarise themselves with the course. 10. OFFICIALS: These will obviously be required and schools WILL be asked to supply them. If you have Competent Members, Please let me know immediately of their expertise: (i.e. Marshals, timekeepers, finish time recorders, finish judges, finish stewards, disc distributors and Course Marshals (who make sure that students run the correct and full distance fairly). 11. INDIVIDUAL AWARDS: (Boys and Girls) (a) First 10 Placegetters will receive Standard Badges. (b) Medallions (Gold, Silver, Bronze) will be awarded to the Three Fastest Runners. 12. TEAM AWARDS; (a) Each member of the first three teams will receive a Certificate. These will be posted with results later. (b) School Team Winners in ALL Age Groups will receive a trophy BOYS OPEN SHELL TROPHY BOYS U17,U16, U15, U14 & U13 SASSSA TROPHY GIRLS OPEN SASSGSA TROPHY GIRLS U17, U16, U15, U14 & U13 BANK SA TROPHY 13. CASH AWARDS: Through the generous sponsorship of Coca-Cola Amatil; Cash Awards of $100 for First : $50 for Second : $30 for Third : will be made to the OVERALL TOP THREE SCHOOLS IN THE TEAMS EVENTS. Placing’s will be based on 3 points for each First Place in a team event, 2 points for each Second Place and 1 point for each Third. As well as this, some Travel Subsidy from Coca-Cola will be allocated to Country Schools competing on the day. First selection trial to choose a squad for the State All Schools National Cross Country in conjunction with Athletics S.A. 2. The final squad selection trial will be the Athletics S.A. Schools Cross Country Championships on Thursday June 12th, 2003 and will be run at Railways Oval (West Terrace, Adelaide). Distances will be the National Distances: 13 years Boys – 3K 13 years Girls - 3K 14/15 years Boys – 4K 14/15 years Girls - 4K 16/17 years Boys – 6K 16/17 years Girls - 4K 18/19 years Boys – 8K 18/19 years Girls – 6K For this event athletes MUST be: In either years 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 of school The correct age as of Dec. 1st, 2003 13 years Born 1990 14/15 years Born 1989, 88 16/17 years Born 1987, 86 18/19 years Born 1985, 84 Athletes will be notified by mail of their final team selection and will be expected to attend at least ONE training session during the term 2 school holidays and ONE Athletics SA weekend race. Athletes still have to maintain their performance levels and adhere to training requirements.
