Principal's e Bulletin February 18, 2005 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ in this issue -- PW Travels: International Classrooms -- Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences -- 2005/2006 School Board Budget -- Community Input Invited -- AMBER ALERT Program To PW Parents & Guardians This newsletter is an e Bulletin from Prince of Wales Secondary School Principal Ms. Chris Zak. PW Travels: International Classrooms ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A number of PW students will spend Spring Break travelling to France or Mexico, practising their language skills and experiencing the culture of their host country. Ms. Kerr will escort a group of 20 students to Cuernavaca, Mexico. These students will live with host families for this tour, attending Spanish classes in the morning and participating in various cultural activities on afternoons and weekends. Another group, sponsored by Mr. Johnson, will spend their mornings studying French at France - Compt University in Besacon, France, and afternoons touring the area. Finally, a group of Mini school students will visit the Mini's partner school in Dijon, France, staying with host families, touring the region, and visiting Paris as a finale. We look forward to hearing from these groups after Spring Break. Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On the evening of February 10th, teachers met with parents/guardians at our spring parent/teacher conferences. This year these conferences were scheduled to follow the spring mid-term report (rather than the second formal report.) We are trying this new schedule to provide families with timely information to address any issues or concerns and to put support plans in place. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this timing for the interviews with PAC, before planning next year's schedule.

AMBER ALERT is a tool used by the police in certain child abduction situations. AMBER ALERT is a partnership between local law enforcement officials and broadcasters designed to provide a rapid response when needed. When an AMBER ALERT is issued, local radio and television stations broadcast information on a vehicle or license plate of interest to the police. Citizens are asked to keep a look out for the vehicle and call 9-1-1 if they spot it. An AMBER ALERT adds thousands of extra eyes to the search for a missing child. AMBER ALERT - When Seconds Count! The AMBER ALERT program has come to B.C. An AMBER ALERT is issued in certain child abduction situations. You will hear the details on your local radio and television station - please keep your eyes open and report anything to 9-1-1.
