Conditions of Entry
The 2009 Equestrian Australia National Young Rider Dressage Championships will be conducted in accordance with the current edition of EA
Dressage Competition Rules effective 1/1/08 including amendments. Competitors are to be aware of the Rules. The onus is on riders to know the
rules under which they compete.

2. Age: This event is open to riders 10 years and up to the end of the year they turn 21 on horses or ponies of any height (except in restricted
     classes).
3. Stallions: Stallions are welcome to compete at this event however they must be kept under control by a competent person at all times when
either ridden or led. Stallions must be led with a bit or chain in addition to their headcollar. Stallions may not be tied to the outside of a truck or
trailer but must be stabled or housed in a truck/trailer. Any stallion not considered to be in control by the Organising Committee (OC) will be
     withdrawn from the event.
4. All riders and handlers are reminded that any horse can be dangerous so please give all horses and ponies enough room to pass safely whether
you are leading or riding. Please be considerate of all riders and handlers and follow the rules of the arena whilst working horses; that is if you
are walking stay towards the middle track in the arena, if you need to stop or check your gear move to the middle of the arena or leave the
arena; pass riders coming in the opposite direction left shoulder to left shoulder. If you pass a rider in the same direction allow at least 5 m
width. Please look around you at all times and try to be aware of others riding or walking past. Many people unintentionally frighten or distract
horses by going too close or by moving too quickly; it is everyone's role to ensure the safety of others. Stallion owners will be provided with
stickers for their saddlecloth to help everyone to identify them.
5. Eligibility: The qualifying period is the 12 months proceeding the closing date of entries. i.e. 10/6/08 to 9/6/09. Please note performance must
have been gained in official competitions, no pony club or interschool performances will be accepted. All entries for tests must have qualified by
having gained at least the following: Preliminary/Novice/Elementary : one performance of at least 60%; Medium/Advanced/FEI one
performance of at least 58% or higher is compulsory at the level they are entering during the 12 months preceding the closing date. Only one
HC score is allowed to count at each level entered.
6. All combinations must submit their best three performances in an Official competition at the appropriate level, between 10/6/08 to 9/6/09..
See above regarding the minimum performance requirement.

three (3) tests only per day, which may include a freestyle test.
8. Horses or Ponies which have won a Champion at Preliminary or Novice Level it is recommended that they compete in the next level. i.e. If you
have won Champion Preliminary at the NSW Young Riders or Pony Dressage Championships you can not compete at Preliminary level and must
     compete at Novice or above.
9. Ranking (balloting) will be based on the average of the highest percentage of three tests at the particular level, in the 12 months preceding the
close of entries. Riders who submit 3 performances (only one of which may be HC) will be considered ahead of those who submit one or two
     performances.
10. The number of horses per rider per competitions may be limited if oversubscribed.
11. Reserve Competitions – if numbers warrant reserve competitions may be run at the discretion of the OC. Competitions will be split into age
     groups if numbers warrant.

     level.

entry forms for verification of performance. If the results have not been entered on the Performance Card, then evidence must be produced to

competition levels at any competition. For the purpose of competing at the Young Rider and Pony Championships the FEI tests are to
                 be considered as:

                                         Trans Tasman Friendly Derby
A team of 2 riders, from New Zealand and Australia
Riders compete at Elementary Level.
A draw from a hat will determine which nation rides first with chef d’equipe deciding which rider from their team will ride first.
The derby will be a 2 round event where riders will have 30 minutes to warm up on horses drawn from a hat.
After a break of at least 30 minutes for the horses, in the second round riders will swap horses with the opposing team (first
drawn rider for each team will swap places, as will second drawn team riders). Horses will stay in the same order as the first
round.

(Australian riders will be nominated by National Selectors). Organising committee will liaise with the National Youth Coordinator
to ensure riders are selected at least a week prior to the competition.
An invitation will be sent from the National EA office inviting New Zealand to send a team of 2 riders plus a chef d’equipe (the
invitation needs to be sent at least 2 months prior to the close of entries).
Event organisers are to provide accommodation (may be cabins at SIEC, hotel or billet accommodation) and meals for the New
Zealand team during the event. Transport of the team to and from the airport as well as during the competition may also be
required. Every effort should be made to return the hospitality provided to Australian team members at previous New Zealand
tours. It may be useful to nominate a rider who has previously competed in New Zealand to act as host to the visiting team and
ideally arrange with assistance from the national youth coordinator tourist or social opportunities (time permitting) during their
visit.

Catch rides for New Zealand team riders
Where New Zealand does not send horses/ponies to the Australian Young Rider Championships the organizing committee
should make every effort to provide catch rides for the New Zealand riders so that they can compete in other events during the
championships (horses or ponies can be at any suitable level and should be eligible wherever possible to compete for prizes
during the championships – ie not compete HC during the championships).
Arrangements should be made wherever possible to have catch ride horses/ponies available 2 days prior to the competition so
that the riders have a chance to familiarize themselves with their mounts. Free entry in the competition for the New Zealand
riders should also be provided.
