2008-2009 Scholarship Bulletin #1 Davidson College Bryan ScholarshipThis scholarship is for honors scholar athletes who are strong leaders both in the classroom and in their sport. Interested student must complete the Davidson application and contact the Davidson coach of their sport via email or letter to introduce themselves. Please see Ms. Lustig for a nomination form. Deadline: September 19, 2008 Wendy’s High School Heisman This award honors male and female athletes who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. To be eligible, students must have a “B” grade average and participate in at least one school sponsored sport. To apply, student can complete an online application at www.wendysheisman.com Deadline: October 1, 2008 National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine The Counseling Department is looking for students to nominate to attend a unique educational program conducted by the National Youth Leadership Forum. This is open to 9-12th grades that have shown academic excellence and leadership potential. Nominees will have an opportunity to attend a 10 day intensive program during the 2009 summer. Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans This scholarship rewards students who possess the character to succeed in life. They help students overcome the financial barriers of pursing higher education. To qualify, students must have at least a 2.0 gpa and require financial assistance to go on to college. Deadline: October 30, 2008 North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs Scholarship If your veteran parent was a resident of North Carolina when he/she entered the Military service or if you are a lifelong resident of NC you maybe be eligible for a scholarship from the state of North Carolina to attend one of the universities, community colleges or technical colleges within the state of North Carolina. Deadline: March 1, 2009 Gates Millennium Scholars Program Eligibility criteria include: -Are African American, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American -Legal resident of the United States -Cumulative unweighted gpa of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale -Demonstrates leadership through community service and extra curricular activities. Parks Scholarship The Parks Scholarship at NC State University is one of the most prestigious undergraduate merit programs in the nation. It provides a superb educational opportunity for exceptionally talented and well-prepared young men and women to develop leadership skills and commitment to public service. Park Scholars are selected based on four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service and character. Students must be nominated for this scholarship. Successful candidates will rank near the top of their class academically and exert positive and meaningful influence in non-academic areas. Other qualities sought by Morehead-Cain selection committees include intellectual curiosity, a drive to achieve, a sense of responsibility beyond self, initiative, creativity, perseverance, and empathy for others.
