Otherwise pick up a PINK Scholarship Request Form in the counseling office and return it to Mrs. Nielsen to receive a paper application for the scholarship. 24 hours after returning your scholarship request, you may pick up the copies of the paper applications from Mrs. Hatzinger, the counseling secretary. REMINDER!!! SENIORS: IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, TURN IN BLUE PROFILE SHEETS TO YOUR COUNSELOR ASAP! THE ACORN EQUALITY FUND offers scholarships from $500 to $4000. These scholarships are designed to provide academic assistance for gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender students, allies, or the children of GLBT parents. Two scholarship applications are available…The Luke Scholarship is based on academic performance and financial need. The Acorn Scholarship is based on academic performance, volunteerism, and advocacy. Two essays, three letters of recommendation and official transcripts are required in addition to the application. Applications are available at www.acornequalityfund.com. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, October 5, 2007. COCA-COLA NATIONAL SCHOLARS FOUNDATION – A total of 250 recipients will be selected throughout the nation for these awards. Fifty awards are for $20,000, payable in equal installments over a four-year period. The remaining 200 awards are for $10,000, also payable over a four-year period. Applicants should have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and should be very involved in school or community activities. Applicants are evaluated on the following: demonstrated leadership in school, commitment to community, academic achievement, and part-time employment. Applications must be received by October 31, 2007. Students must apply online at: www.cocacolascholars.org DANFORTH SCHOLARS AT WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS: The Danforth Scholars Program seeks candidates who have exhibited a capacity for service and leadership, as well as academic excellence and who will embrace the challenges of a rigorous academic curriculum. They are especially interested in students who stand out among their peers for their maturity, strong moral character, selflessness, and commitment to the community. Danforth Scholars receive full or partial-tuition scholarships. Individuals are considered for this program only after a nomination is submitted from someone who knows the young person well; students may not apply directly. Letters of nomination, along with the student’s application and transcript, will be read and evaluated by a committee of faculty and friends at Washington University. The deadline for applying for this highly competitive scholarship is October 15, 2007. HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP: The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. The eligibility criteria are: students who intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree, have financial need, involvement in co-curricular and community activities, a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average. All applicants must submit a copy of the front page of their parent/guardian’s individual tax return and one letter of support. Students should apply online at www.horatioalger.com/scholarships. Deadline for application and supplemental materials is: October 30, 2007. IEA-NEA EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP—This scholarship is available to children/legal wards of current IEANEA members who plan to pursue a career in teaching. Recipients of the scholarship must commit to a year of work in the education field in a Illinois public school after graduation. Applicants are evaluated on economic need, academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and an essay. Applications and all supporting materials must be postmarked by December 3, 2007. ILLINOIS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION 2007 HOMELESS EDUCATION POSTER CONTEST—Students in grade 5-12 are invited to participate in an art poster contest focusing on homelessness and its impact on families, children, and youth in education. Three top state winners will receive savings bonds in the amounts of $750, $500, or $350 dollars. Registration must be submitted by October 10, 2007 and art entries must be submitted by October 20, 2007. The registration form, instructions and guidelines for the poster contest are available online at the ISBE website at www.isbe.net/homeless/. NAVY RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS (NROTC) SCHOLARSHIP—The NROTC scholarship is a four-year scholarship worth up to $180,000 covering full tuition, books, fees, uniforms and a monthly stipend of $250. After graduation form college, the student enters the Navy as a commissioned officer in a variety of occupations including engineering, aviation, surface warfare or nursing. The minimum scholarship requirements are: ACT: 22 Math, 22 English or SAT: 520 Math, 530 Verbal. For more information or to apply, go to www.nrotc.navy.mil. THE PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD -- A very competitive award, this is given to one student at Guilford High School. Each applicant must complete a four-page application describing a volunteer service that the student actively participated in. From the local winners, one student in the state will be selected to receive state or national awards. Selected honorees are expected to attend the entire all-expense paid national recognition events in Washington, D.C. in May 2008. Application is available at www.prudential.com/spirit, click on APPLY NOW, follow instructions and print the application when complete. Completed applications are due to Mrs. Nielsen by October 31, 2007. SAE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM—Several engineering scholarships are available for students who intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet minimum requirements with regard to GPA and ACT scores as outlined in each of the individual scholarship criteria. Some scholarships are University Sponsored and some are Undesignated. Specific scholarship criteria and applications are available at www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm. All applications and supplemental materials are due December 1, 2007. UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-COLUMBIA—COLLEGE OF BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS—Three scholarships are available for students who are accepted into the University of Missouri College of Business…the Sam Walton Scholarship (based on academic achievement and financial need), the Robert Trulaske, Sr. Scholarship (based on academic achievement), and the Ponder Minority Scholarship (for minority students). Applications are available at www.business.missouri.edu. Deadline for these scholarships is March 1, 2008. UW-PLATTEVILLE MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS—Music Scholarships are available for students accepted into UWPlatteville who plan to participate in musical groups (such as choir, band, orchestra, or Musical Theater) or who plan to major in music. To apply, students must schedule an audition in Platteville by contacting Dan Fairchild at (608)3421123 or fairchig@uwplatt.edu. Auditions will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 and Saturday, March 1, 2008. Students must also complete and return the ―Application for Music Scholarship‖ and submit two letters of recommendation.
Please remember to keep in contact with the admissions office or financial aid office of every college you are applying to. Every college will offer their own scholarship opportunities. The admissions office and/or financial aid office can provide you with details about specific scholarship opportunities, procedures and deadlines!
