SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN #2 OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2007 Below is our second listing of scholarship information. Review it, and KEEP IT with your college materials. We also have information on trade or technical schools. You may also find this listing online at www.fatherjudge.com. Look under Guidance and “Services.” Some applications for the scholarships in this bulletin can be picked up in the GUIDANCE CENTER, located outside the cafeteria. We also have more detailed information. You must do the initial scholarship research by looking up information in our scholarship file drawer. It goes by the NUMBER beside each award listed below. Counselors will be happy to assist you. SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION 20. THE PENNSYLVANIA SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS, PHILADELPHIA CHAPTER Students interested in an education in Engineering may compete for these scholarships. Drexel University is providing two five-year scholarships of $5,000 per year. Temple University is providing a four-year scholarship of $2,000 per year. Up to two $500 cash awards will be made by the Phila. Chapter of PSPE. We have applications in the Guidance Center. Requirements include: must meet or exceed minimum SAT’s; must be a U.S. citizen; must be a resident of the city/county of Phila. If you live in another county, contact their PSPE Chapter to see if scholarship programs are available. UNITED STEELWORKERS HUGH CARCELLA SCHOLARSHIP – DISTRICT 10 Six four-year scholarships worth $4,000 will be awarded. ($1,000 per year) Eligibility: Applicant must be a member in good standing, or the son or daughter or legal ward of a member of a United Steelworker, District 10 (Eastern) local union participating in the Scholarship Program; or the son or daughter or legal ward of a disabled or old age retiree or deceased member of an affiliated local union who was in good standing at the time of retirement or death. Grades, SAT’s, conduct, and other information supplied by the high school will be considered. Applications may be obtained from participating local unions. DEADLINE: MARCH 8,2008 22. ARCADIA UNIVERSITY MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS AU Distinguished Scholarship -- $11,000 to $18,000 per year AU Achievement Award -- $1,000 to $12,000 per year AU Landman Scholarship – full tuition AU Writing Achievement Award -- $1,000 per year Students are automatically considered for these scholarships upon applying to Arcadia. RIDER UNIVERSITY (Lawrenceville & Princeton, NJ) To be considered for an academic scholarship you must submit your application for admission to Rider, must have been actively involve in your high school and/or local community, have minimum SAT’s of 1000 or ACT’s of 21, have a minimum GPA of 3.0. DEADLINE: JANUARY 8, 2008 for majors that do not require an audition FEBRUARY 28, 2008 majors that require an audition There are various scholarships with various requirements. Included are Acting Scholarships and Athletic Scholarships. If interested in Athletic Scholarships, students should contact the Athletic Department at 609-896-5054. VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE (VMI) Full & partial scholarships are available in various categories: Institute Scholars ($15,000 to full tuition), Superintendent’s Scholars (up to $10,000 per year), & Dean’s Scholars (up to $5,000 per year). There are additional ROTC scholarships. There are different requirements for each type of scholarship, but you should be academically talented & intellectually curious with a well-balanced high school record that includes leadership roles & a broad spectrum of extracurricular activities. DEADLINE FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION IS JANUARY 8, 2008. 25. SAINT FRANCIS UNIVERSITY (Loretto, PA) The Franciscan Award is given to all students accepted at Saint Francis University that graduate from a Catholic High School. It is a $1,500 per year scholarship. For more information, call 1-866DIAL-SFU or go to www.francis.edu 26. EMORY UNIVERSITY (Atlanta, GA) Emory Scholars Program – Come in to the Guidance Center to nominate yourself if interested in attending Emory University. We may submit up to 4 outstanding seniors. This program awards scholarships ranging from 2/3 tuition to full-tuition, room, board, & fees. Visit www.college.emory.edu/current/achievement/scholars Goizueta Scholars Program – New scholarship this year for students with a strong interest in business. We may nominate a current senior for this program. Award will range from 2/3 to full tuition and fees. Come ASAP to the Guidance Center if interested. Visit www.goizueta.emory.edu DEADLINE for BOTH SCHOLARSHIPS IS OCTOBER 26, 2007. 27. SAINT VINCENT COLLEGE (Latrobe, PA) WIMMER SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION We may nominate students with a GPA of at least 3.25 or higher to compete in this competition. If you are interested, come in to the Guidance Center to be nominated. DEADLINE: OCTOBER 26, 2007. The Wimmer Scholarship Competition takes place on NOVEMBER 17, 2007. (You should apply for admission to Saint Vincent College before the competition date.) Exam includes subject matter in English, Math, & general knowledge. Five scholarships will be awarded: 1st place winner gets full tuition & room & board; 2nd through 5th place receives a full-tuition scholarship. www.stvincent.edu 28. ROANOKE COLLEGE (Salem, Virginia) To apply, visit website at: www.roanoke.edu/scholars. Application DEADLINE: JANUARY 8, 2008 for the Spring Competition. 29. AMERICAN DREAM SCHOLARSHIPS –COMMERCE BANK These $1,000 scholarships are one-time awards to two- or four-year colleges, universities or vocational-technical schools. Requirements: Minimum 3.0 GPA, and be employed or actively involved in the community. Interested students can apply online at commerceonline.com/americandream DEADLINE: DECEMBER 8, 2007. 30. CAPPEX.COM Cappex.com, the website that tells you which colleges want you before you apply, is giving away $25,000 in scholarships. It is free to log on at www.Cappex.com/scholarships. You must apply before the end of January 2008. 31. DISCOVER COLLEGES Discover Colleges provides a FREE private college information service as well as a$2,500 private college scholarship drawing. Students can log onto www.discovercolleges.com to request information and automatically be entered in the $2,500 scholarship drawing. SENIORS NOTE: APPLY ASAP TO COLLEGES!!! It will be to your benefit. Bring in any acceptance letters that you receive when you first get them to the Guidance Center.
