    Breakfast just hasn’t been the same since hearing
    morning news reports of toxic and radioactive materials
    present in some agricultural fertilisers. Despite assurances
    from various officials, the public has begun to wonder
    just what systems are in place to protect the food
    it is eating.
    A search of Archives Investigator (
    shows the various agencies that have regulated primary
    industry in New South Wales since 1816 to the present.
    In this issue we note some of the boards, panels, commissions
    and committees that have overseen the production,
    distribution and marketing of agricultural products.
    In particular we highlight the Orient butter label — one
    of a series of label designs submitted by dairy producers
    to the Department of Agriculture to register their butter
    brand names and trademarks.
