UK ITU-T (03) 17 ITU-T SG 15 – OPTICAL AND OTHER TRANSPORT NETWORKS REPORT TO UK ITU-T CO-ORDINATION 1. General The forth meeting of Study Group 15 in the 2001 - 2004 study period took place in Geneva from the 20th – 31st January 2003 under the chairmanship of Mr. P. Wery (Nortel Networks, Canada). It was attended by 288 delegates (16 from the UK) representing 24 Administrations, 17 Recognised Operating Agencies, 61 Scientific and Industrial Organisations, 6 Associates and 1 International Organisation. The meeting considered 22 „white‟ contributions and 254 delayed contributions (98 addressed to Q.4/15). This was a record number of delayed contributions for the current study period. 2. Results SG 15 gave consent to submit 20 draft revised/new Recommendations, 4 Corrigenda and 13 Amendments to Last Call under the Recommendation A.8 procedure SG 15 agreed the texts of 1 Appendix and 4 Implementors‟ Guides. Details are given in Annex 1. 3. Items of particular interest to the UK G.989.3 G.989.3 “Phone-line Networking Transceivers - Isolation Function” was completed and gained consent in line with UK proposals. G.7712/.1703 The UK proposal for an Inter-working function (Auto-tunnelling) was included in the revision of G.7712/.1703 “Architecture and Specification of Data Communication Network” given consent by SG 15. G.7713.1, .2 & .3 G.7713.1, .2 & .3, “Distributed Call and Connection Management (DCM) based on PNNI”, “Distributed Call and Connection Management Signalling mechanism using GMPLS RSVP-TE” & “Distributed Call and Connection Management Signalling mechanisms using GMPLS CR-LDP” were consented „as a set‟ as proposed by the UK. GFP The UK position against further development of GFP to provide additional layer networks was presented and discussed. There was support from several carriers who stated that they did not wish to develop the OAM and OSS support for a GFP based alternative to existing technologies such as ATM and MPLS. 4. Future Meetings The next plenary meeting of Study Group 15 is scheduled to take place in Geneva from the 21st – 31st October 2003. The plenary gave its approval for 14 interim Rapporteurs‟ meetings, details of which are given in Annex 2.
