Lottery shares post 2009 consultation - Promote the consultation and be a voice for sport A toolkit for sports organisations and partners Last week, bulletin readers will recall my special bulletin on the consultation exercise being carried out by the DCMS on the National Lottery. Sport England, UK Sport, Sports Council for Wales, sportscotland and Sports Council Northern Ireland are working together to raise awareness of the consultation on lottery funding post 2009. The consultation by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport presents an opportunity for everyone involved in sport, and interested in its impact in our communities, to have their say about what lottery funding for sport has done so far, and what it can achieve in the future. Enclosed today is a useful toolkit to assist you in completing the consultation exercise if you have not yet had time to do so. This toolkit contains ten easy tactics - things sport lovers, groups and organisations can do to promote the consultation and be a voice for sport.
Our health, our care, our say The Our health, our care, our say White Paper sets out a vision to provide people with good quality social care and NHS services in the communities where they live. NHS services are half way through a 10 year plan to become more responsive to patient needs and prevent ill health by the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Social care services are also changing to give service users more independence, choice and control. More information, including a bulletin, research report and the White Paper itself is available on the following link: http://www.dh.gov.uk/PolicyAndGuidance/OrganisationPolicy/Modernisation/OurHealthOurCareOurSay/f s/en Inclusive fitness initiative (IFI) Newsletter I am pleased to say the bumper edition of the IFI Newsletter is now available on the IFI website. Please click on the link: http://www.inclusivefitness.org/newsletter/index.php to access the IFI newsletter. This year is already proving to be one of exciting new developments and you will see the IFI launch its 150 site at the end of February and the Inclusive Fitness Mark in the spring.
Investing in volunteers newsletter This newsletter sits with the year of the volunteer information we sent out last year and is presented by Volunteering England. It is a very useful tool in terms of updates and training opportunities. To view an online version of the newsletter, please click on: http://www.iivnewsletter.co.uk/newsletter_archive/Issue_5_-_(February_2006).html Saima’s Sony Award Congratulations go to Saima Hussain who is funded by Sport England Yorkshire as the Sports Development Coordinator for Getaway Girls, a project to increase sports participation amongst women and girls in Leeds, and who has just won a prestigious Sony Award for the most up and coming sports personality of the year. Saima is the first Asian woman to play rugby for England. We plan to feature Saima in a larger feature for Sport England in the near future, but wanted to get our congratulations in early via the bulletin. Leeds Sports Federation AGM

Joke of the week Last week what the world needed now was love sweet love (to paraphrase the old song). This week the world needs a thoroughly hideous pun, and this “vamparistic” joke should get to the heart of the matter!
