Word Inventions As well as creating inventions you can use your imagination to invent words. Slim-Pickles and Jolly created flubbery-floats, wollies-with-wings, twozzers, grunchers, gibblers and splonkety-twangs. To start with think of three words. You may use words from your spelling list, the dictionary, classroom displays or anywhere else you can think of. Write the three words and then join them together. You may use all of the letters from each word, or the first half, middle letters…anything! Come up with as many combinations as you can. The only rule is that you can’t change the order of letters in your words. For example – My three words are – Problem, Thump and Buster Some new words I can make are – Pro-thum-ster Thum-rob-bus Ster-blem-bust Uster-hump-lem Have a try My three words are _______________________ New words - Another three words are _______________________ New words - Another three words are _______________________ New words - On the back of the sheet pick your favourite invented words. Write definitions for them like you’d find in the dictionary.
