1.    Purpose
1.1
In accordance with the provisions of Australian Standard AS 4292.5-1997, Railway Safety
Management Part 5, Operational Systems (Section 2), to establish an Interface Coordination Plan
which shall clearly delineate the responsibilities of each party or functional area involved, and be
agreed to by those parties or functional areas.


2.    Legal Status Of This Document
2.1
This agreement creates a legal relationship between the parties and the parties are bound by the
terms of the agreement. The performance of this agreement by either party is enforceable in any
way in any court or tribunal.


3.    Scope
3.1
This Interface Coordination Plan has been developed between the <Company X>,
and <Company Y>.

3.2
The Plan describes the functional areas in each organisation which will be involved, the
subject matter which has been considered, and the interfaces across which coordination
has been established.

3.3
The Plan provides determination as to which party agrees to accept responsibility for each identified
item of subject matter, procedures for the exchange of safety information, and procedures for
assessing and monitoring the compatibility of engineering and operational parameters.

3.4
The Plan also provides procedures for the review of the Interface Coordination Plan.


4.    Background
4.1
Provide a brief summary in relation to the background circumstances which has required all
involved parties to enter into an Interface Coordination Plan.

5.    Description Of Operation
5.1
Provide a full description of the operation being undertaken between all parties involved in this
Interface Coordination Plan.
Example (a):
In an Interface Coordination Plan agreed between Company X (train operator) and Company Y
(owner of balloon loop track), Company X will supply and operate trains to transport coal from the
nominated loading terminal to the nominated unloading location in accordance with the haulage
contract between Company X and the coal supplier. Company Y shall unload Company X’s trains in
compliance with the agreed procedures between the two organisations (Company X and Company
Y).”
Example (b):
In an Interface Coordination Plan agreed between Company Z (track maintainer) and Company Y
(owner of track – balloon loop), Company Z shall maintain the nominated infrastructure of Company Y
in accordance with the maintenance contract between the two organisations.


6.    Responsible Parties
6.1
Nominate each organisation’s responsibility in relation to all appropriate matters for inclusion
within the Interface Coordination Plan.

6.2
Nominate each organisation’s representatives, where appropriate, assigning responsibility for
general or specific functions and outcomes in accordance with the Interface Coordination Plan.


7.    Definitions
7.1
Standard <Company X> terminology as per the <Company X> Corporate Dictionary is used
throughout the Interface Coordination Plan.

7.2
Any additional terms or definitions used within this Interface Coordination Plan should also be listed.


8.    Method of Distribution
8.1
As per the distribution list contained within this Interface Coordination Plan.

8.2
The Interface Coordination Plan has been distributed either by hand or postal service to each
involved organisation or person.
