The Blackboard Content Collection – a quick guide

What is the Content Collection?
The Content Collection provides an online storage space for students and
staff. Your lecturers, and TVU central departments, may use the Content
Collection to make materials available to you

You can use it to store files which you are working on for a current
assignment – in particular files which you may want to share with other
students, or with your lecturers.

You may also use it as a convenient way of transporting files from University
to home and vice versa - files in the Content Collection can be retrieved from
anywhere with web access.

Moreover the Content Collection allows you to create an online Portfolio – this
could be used to create a CV, personal development portfolio, or to record
work carried out for an assignment.

When you open the Content Collection tab you see a menu on the left offering

My Content
The Content Collection opens showing My Content – which is where you can
store your personal content. Your allowance is 20Mb.

Course Content
You may see a content folder for each Blackboard course on which you are
enrolled – but only if your lecturers have stored materials here and made it
available. Lecturers will generally create specific links from your Blackboard
course to the files which they want you to access, rather than expecting you
simply to browse through content folders.

Organization Content
Content for any Organizations (accessed via the Communities tab) of which
you are a member.

Institution Folder
This is an area where TVU’s faculties and central departments can make
materials available for students and staff.

Some content in this area can be viewed by any user e.g. Blackboard user
guides. Access to other materials may be restricted to certain types of user
e.g. staff, or students in a particular Faculty.

Library Content
Used to store electronic learning resources; again, some materials may be
restricted e.g. to students on a particular course.

Portfolios
The Blackboard Portfolio tool allows any user – without any special IT skills –
to create a collection of linked web pages, with an automatically-generated
navigation menu. This could be used to create a CV, personal development
portfolio, or to record work carried out for an assignment.
Please see the separate student user guide on the TVU Online help website
www.tvu.ac.uk/blackboard

Tools
Provides a variety of tools e.g. to search for content in the system, to share
content with other users through “workflow activities”.
This area also contains a Help link, which opens the Content System user
manual – please refer to this manual for detailed instructions on using the
Content Collection.

Sharing your files

only be viewed by you, but you can share them with other users if you wish.

Click on this icon to share a file or folder.
You can grant read access to specific users

or groups of users
