Mr M Swart (DA) to ask the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism:


    (1) Whether approval has been given to a certain company in the Northern Cape (FAMDA:
        Fishing and Mariculture Development Company of the Northern Cape) to establish a
        mariculture project at Port Nolloth; if so, (a) what is the nature of the products to be
        cultivated and (b)(i) who is the owner and (ii) what is the size of the property;

    (2) whether this land was public land; if so,

    (3) whether it was (a) sold or (b) let;

    (4) whether a public tender process was followed in the sale or rental of the property; if not,
        why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

319. THE MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND TOURISM ANSWERS:


      (1) The Fishing and Mariculture Development Association (FAMDA) has not applied to the
          Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) for approval to establish a
          Mariculture Project in Port Nolloth. However the department is aware that FAMDA has
          been working with the Richtersveld Municipality. The department is not responsible for
          implementing the project and any further questions should be directed at the municipality.
