The city of Phoenix owns and operates most of the transit service within the city including local bus, some express bus, RAPID, neighborhood circulators, the downtown circulator, and Phoenix Dial-A-Ride; it also is a partner in the light rail system - METRO, which is scheduled to go online December 2008. Buses are fully accessible, and there are about 4,000 bus stops throughout Phoenix. Bus schedules and light rail schedules can be found in the Transit Book which are available on buses, at transit centers, and a number of city offices and libraries. To find information about transit service, go to ValleyMetro.org or call a transit representative at (602) 253-5000; for persons with text telephones the TTY is (602) 261-8208. Additional information can be found on: phoenix.gov/publictransit. Where to Buy Transit Passes Passengers can purchase a single ride or an all-day pass to board buses. Reduced fares are offered to youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Single Ride: $1.25 full fare local bus/train $0.60 cents reduced fare $1.75 Express/ RAPID $2.50 full fare local bus/train $1.25 reduced fare. $3.50 Express/RAPID All-day pass: Additionally, passengers can purchase 3-day, 7-day, and monthly passes on-line or at these transit centers: Central Station, Ed Pastor Transit Center, Sunnyslope Transit Center, and Metrocenter Transit Center. Neighborhood Resource Guide 159 Transportation Public Transit Light rail platforms have fare vending machines that will offer the full array of passes; some bus transit centers also have fare vending machines. Also, some employers offer a subsidized transit pass as an employee benefit; check with the human resources office at your workplace. City Bus Services Weekday, Saturday, and Sunday transit service is offered to major destinations in the city on local buses, neighborhood circulators, and light rail. Commuter buses (Express/RAPID) and the business circulator DASH operate Monday through Friday. Local buses travel Phoenix streets into neighboring cities stopping about every 1/4 mile along each route; major local bus routes connect to the light rail route (as of December 29, 2008) at 28 light rail platforms. The same transit pass can be used on bus and light rail services. Limited stop buses are on a couple of routes within the city: the Grand Ave. Limited and the 7th St. Limited; these buses stop every mile or more along their route. Commuter buses travel long distances, mainly using freeway routes to major employment centers such as Downtown Phoenix. Phoenix Neighborhood Circulators are free and mini-buses run on five routes in the city of Phoenix: ALEX in Ahwatukee, MARY in Maryvale, SMART in Sunnyslope, DART in Desert Ridge, and DEER RUN in northwest Phoenix. DASH business circulator in Downtown Phoenix - has two routes in the area: the government loop from City Hall/County Buildings to the State Capitol and the downtown loop from Roosevelt Street to the sports stadiums. DASH is a free service which operates Monday through Friday. Park-and-Rides are located in various areas around the city and the Valley. Phoenix Public Transit operates seven secured sites in Phoenix which have covered parking and lighting; these are listed on the internet or by calling transit information. Bikes can be accommodated on buses and trains but use may be restricted during peak hours. On buses, there are bike racks located at the front which can accommodate 2 or 3 bikes; on the train, bike racks are located inside each car. Transportation 160 City of Phoenix
