About Me My early experience was in playwriting; the first short play I wrote won the Helen Prince Award for Excellence in Dramatic Writing from Barnard College. My next play, “Do Hermaphrodites Reproduce Only in the Spring?” was a finalist in Eugene O’Neill Theater Center Competition. It was scheduled for production twice: The first time, the theater owner died and the theater was shut down for the season, while the second time the director committed suicide. For the benefit of the arts community, I thought it best to get out of playwriting. Fortunately, I found a voice in both fiction and non-fiction.
